Sam's Club Channellock Tool set

I saw this at Sams club today and the set actually looked very nice. I played around with the ratchets and I was very impressed with the shortness of the gears....it did not take much rotation at all for it to click one time. The sockets seem to be of good quality as well....does anyone have any experience with Channellock ratchets and sockets? Thanks guys.

As long as they have a lifetime waranty, I say get 'em. I bought some Stanely ratchets from Walmart, and now they no longer carrry them, so I'm kinda screwed. But its okay, I have a million tools.

i know they make pretty nice pliers and such, never knew they make wrenches as well.
for slightly more money you should be able to get craftsman with a life time warrantee.

They did carry them, but they(Walmart) are not the ones who honor the warranty. If something breaks, you could never return the tool to Walmart, you had to send it into Stanley. So, even if Walmart no longer carries the sets, your warranty is the same.

Peace,
Mark

I saw the same set, but wasn't that impressed. Even though the ratchets turn expremely smoothly, it's because they have more and smaller gear teeth. While this does allow you to use it with less "turn", i.e. 5 deg .vs. 10 deg... smaller gear teeth also means they're easier to break.

Even though I refuse to shop at Sears anymore, my wife purchased the 254 piece set for me on sale for Father's Day. With tax, it was under $170. The ratchets aren't as smooth as even my old set of Stanley's, but they're damn strong and have already taken a ton of abuse that have killed other ratchets.

It's a trade off. For smaller ratchets(1/4" drive and stubbies) fine gear teeth isn't as critical a wear issue. The one complaint I have about the Sears ratchets is that the 3/8" drive has a shorter handle than I'm used to.

The Channel Lock set is inexpensive enough to maybe have as an extra set, for maybe keeping in your car. I'm using my old Stanley set for that purpose.

Peace,
Mark

I would like to add a little of my own experience about the stanley ratchets and craftsman crap to this thread. I bought a couple stanley ratchets 3/8 and 1/4 from walmart. They cost slightly less than craftsman ratchets and had no obvious guarantee but I bought them anyway just to see if they were any good . I have been using the stanley ratchets for a little over a year now and have nothing but good things to say about them. The stanley tools seem to be made much better than the craftsman regular stuff, much better finish work outside beautiful chrome finish and by far are more smooth operating than crapsman stuff. I am convinced these will last much longer than craftsman ratchets and even if I have to buy a new one in three years. I would have had to return to sears to replace my craftsman ratchets two or three times. Is your time worth driving to sears 3 times for a $12-$15 ratchet or buying one stanley every 3-5 or more years???
Back to the topic....The channelock company has been making quality adjustable plyers for years. I don't know if the new stuff they are putting out is any good (other than the adj. plyers those are still very good) It may be crap but I assume the name is good for something....They are probably better than craftsman stuff but that dosen't say much. Channelock has a good rep for "channel lock plyers" but other than that I can't give much feedback.

Tools

I bought that exact same kit about 3 months ago! I have beat the piss out of it and nothing broke. I use mine for Junkyard tools. Get them it is one hell of a deal. Especially with the case!

I purchased a CHannel Lock tool cart that had a simialr set included with the cart. I wanted the cart but hell the tolls came with it. I like them very much actually, the ratchets are smooth , although my 1/2" drive ratchet will not reverse (it was lik that when I bought it) and I need to send it in...
