Right now that's about all I'd have money for! =) We'll see what next year brings. We just paid off the Si so I'll have money to rebuild the MDM (and buy new tools).

The Craftsman stuff is actually really good for the money, especially when you buy it in a set. I've broken a few of the sockets and never had a problem getting an instant replacement as soon as I turned them into a Sears. For the record, I've also broken a few other brand sockets (Snap-On included).

It's funny you mention you don't like the Craftsman ratchets... have you checked out there new line of professional ratchets? I really like them myself. I plan on getting a set as soon as I start back on serious car rebuilding. Not that I need them, but I just really like them. =)

WHAT? I can't think of any 17 piece socket set being $700 from snap on.Nor a wrench set being $885. I buy snap on tools all the time and the only socket set that would be that expensive would be a huge 1" drive set. I don't know anyone that uses 1" drive, rarely even a 3/4.
Thats what we pay in NZ and what it would have worked out to be in US dollars.. Sucks huh!

wow guys. Sucks to be the poor college dude that I am. I bought my 1/2 socket set for $40, my 1/2 for $55 and my metric/standard dogbone set for $35.

Cool thing is that I haven't managed to break anything yet except a socket extenstion.

I'm a tech at a local Nissan dealership, and I'll say this much...
Both Snap-On and Mac visit the shop, and I will admit that their tools are of a damn fine quality when it comes down to it, but the only reason I have for buying them is that they sell to me on credit(I only have to pay a little on the balance each week). So when you're in a bind, they're a great, and I can easily justify spending the little each week on them.
But in all honesty, some of the best tools in my box are some older Craftsman one's my dad gave me. Hell, my ratchet is from 1971, and I like it far better than any Mac or Snap-On one I've used to date!
Just my two cents though,
Erik
