alternative/cheap lift?

My friend was telling me about an air powered lift, that didnt have to be permanently anchored.

I cant find anything like that worth a damn. Anyone know what im talking about?
Alternatively, whats the cheapest I could get a lift? Im only gonna be working on small light cars <2300 lbs .

Dont say a pit, because that wont work out well for my plans.

There's different varieties of these, it's probably what he's talking about:

Yikes thats a iffy looking lift It doesnt look too stable and weight distribution looks like youre gonna need some pretty heavy duty ground to lift it on.

You might also want to check out a used two post lift. If you have enough height in the garage. I see these sold or swapped out of dealerships all the time. My last store had bought a used one. ( looked at most a year or two old) for less than 2g's installed.

I've got one on the slab behind my house. Cost me $1800 electric screwdrive. I love it. Now I just need a taller garage.
