I did this myself on my turbo piping earlier this year. Thought it up myself too! Kit Car Builder should give me credit. LOL The one the magazine did is a little to wide in my opinion. Just look at the last pic of the actual bead rolled manufactured piece and you see that it only needs to be about that wide, just enough to 'bite' on but no so much that it's hard to slip your coupling over.

I had a thread showing this but I'll reposted the pics below for the benefit of this thread.
