Depends on the tool. Craftsman for almost anything with their lifetime warranty like wrenches or screwdrivers. Snap-On quality for anything precision. All my rachets are Facom or the nice Huskys. The Huskys are suprisingly good rachets, I recommend checking them out. Go Snap-On for torque wrenches if you have the bank. If you are like me and mostly torquing wheels and suspension parts, keep in mind if you drop a t-wrench, it needs to be recalibrated and that aint cheap. I've been using a $10 Harbor Freight special and it works great for 'close enuf' torquing. Harbor Freight is the sh*t for any tool you might only need a few times. Alot of their stuff is lifetime warranty as well.
well also keep in mind i am going into collison and repair so i mainly need body tools i allready have a decent set of sockets and stuff at home but i need air tools

craftsman air tools suck ,imo . Go with snap-ons since thats what i got, they're alot better quality for a longer period of time and they're stronger.
yeah it is a toss up tween snap-on and MAC, i have a set of air tools from my dad that are MAC and are really old but still work like new, i just don't know if thier new tools are still as good. then on the other hand snap-on gives me a loan for as much as i need, to get whatever i need. plus they have a 2 year garentee on all air tools which means before the end of that last year i say that it is not working as good as it was when it was new and i get a new tool plus another 2 years ( the snap-on guy told us to do this haha) and their truck vists our town often so yeah
Ehhhh,
Im with ibebangin on this one....
My boxes consist of an erie mix of Craftsman, Snap On, Husky and most recently..... Pittsburg.
Thats right,
Harbor freight moved into my town..
Good thing though,
If they were here from the beginning I can see it now,
Pittsburg, Chicago Electric, Central Pneumatic..
Hell My shop would be HF #2.. lol..
Gotta love their impact deals though..
and if they are n your area.. You cannot beat their prices,
Watch out though they do sell some JUNK.
the recently purchased C Clamp plyers or whatever they are called come to mind...
craftsman air tools do suck, but they are basicly the same quality as the HF air tools, and you can regularily get the HFs on sale for like $20 each. That is a friggin steal, and they work great. I have about a dozen different HF air tools, and I use them maybe once a week and they hold up fine. If you use this sh*t everyday get better stuff, but damn, how complicated is a die grinder? The sh*t just spins.
The only exception that I've found is impact wrenches. The HF impact wrenches are garbage, and the only air tool I've ever returned there. Went with a pimp IR impact and am much happier.
Air tools I would not buy anything but Ingersoll Rand. Although Snap On and Mac both have a few decent ones as well.
Hand tools, i won't buy any more Craftsman ratchets. I broke 3 3/8's drivers in one weekend two weeks ago. Their warranties don't cover drivers for more than a year now. I've had better luck with my Duralast(autozone) and my Husky (Home Depot) stuff than Craftsman as of late. You can't go wrong with Snap On or Mac tools though. S&K makes great tools as well.
snap-on if it is going to be for work... craftsman are not for professionals.
I agree. I personaly have Snap-on and matco. Also some cornwell stuff. The less important stuff like impact sockets are the cornwell stuff. Snap-on is my box, hand tools, some air tools, etc. They are expensive, but you will know why it is worth it when you use them over others. But when you get 1/2 off... sh*t, I am almost willing to enlist in Wyotech just to get the discount!!! Hook a brother up!

Snap-On is fairly close to me and while there is no doubt they make quality tools, they are very highly priced. My father was a mechanic in the ARMY and after that worked as one locally for about 30 years. After he stopped turning wrenches he decided to sell tools and is selling Cornwell. Some items on his truck I may not buy, but I have Cornwell wrenches, ratchets, and sockets and honestly they are as good if not better than any tool I have ever used, and I have been in and out of shops since I was old enough to walk. Definately look at all the major trucks supported outfits and choose from there. You want them to come to you for service and that is part of what you are paying for...
