Power needs , single car garage

What kinda power are you guys running in your garage. I have a single car garage , that i might be able to squeeze two cars in.

May decide to run things like radiant heating, welder , large compressor , power tools. Nothing too crazy. I was gonna call the power company to run power to it seperately , because the house power service sucks theres no way its going to run off that and also its quite detached from the house.

if you do that you will have two seperate electric bills. i'm not even sure the power co. would do that. you should upgrade your electrical service to your house first and then run power for a sub-panel out to the garage by digging a trench under ground to the garage, if your close to philly i could do it for you for a better rate than a contractor, good luck w/ your project.

The house is in trenton, Im in morrisville. The house aint mine, the garage is. I know what your saying, but having two electric bills in actually in my favor.

I have crappy 100 amp service in my house/garage go for at least 200 amp service with the hundred amp when my 6.5hp compressor kicks on the lights dim. Tripped the breaker a few times, going to prob run a seperate breaker for just my garage heater and lights when I get a few more bucks to do it.

so you have 100 amp service, for your house and garage combined correct? Yeah I was thinking about 100 amps just for the garage, but I have no idea.

yeah its for both house and garage, I live alone in my house so I know its just a few light on in the house plus the computer and refrigerator being the larger items.

well I've been trying to figure out a way to wire my new/used welder today, I'll chip in and say you better go for the 200 amp as well.

The welder alone pulls 45amps, with a recommended breaker of 70amps. Add a compressor, heater, and several lights and you'll need that 200amps for sure.

I inherited a used MillerMatic 250.

With the trouble I'm having figuring out a way to get power to the SOB I nearly wish I had just purchased the Hobart 180, even though I got this one for free. I just spent $200 for tank/gas, still need to buy wire and a clamp for it - this is one expensive toy (and I don't even know how to weld yet!)
