compressors!

well guys its finally time for me to purchase my own! only one problem, i dunno what i really NEED in my compressor. i am deff going to need enough to run a DA sander/ spray gun/ impact guns 1/2 and 3/8's & my 3/8's air ratchet. any use other than this will be like filling tires or air tanks for the weekend...

so how big to i really need to go? i want to do it once and right. i was looking a the craftsman pro. series one at sears, $400some..

any info on your sizes you own and the work you use'm for? i dont want to purchase too large but i deff dont want to fall short!

thanks in advance

heh, i used to work at sears a while back..i know which one youre talking about...a big factor for people is that it is 40% quieter than the regular line which makes a HUGE difference when operating for a long time.

SCFM Delivery At 40 psi =8.6 SCFM
SCFM Delivery At 90 psi =6.8 SCFM

its only a 25 gallon, but thats good enough for most home users. it delivers 150psi(but u'll never reach that). one problem you do need to worry about(kinda) is the age of your home where this will be used because this compressor operates at 15amps, and most older houses cant handle that.

well sear's changed there price on me 2x in 3 days.... i found a Cambell Hessfield ? (spelling) for 399 at harbor feright... 2stage, belt driven, 60gal. standup... same warranty as craftsman... im almost sold on this one.. and i would have gotten sears if they'd honor that price as listed in a current dated book... grr...

P.S. = harbor Freight screwed up a price tag on an indctive timing light. $12 score... there more than happy to honor that mistake soo another reason to buy there.

Careful of the CH. I bought one and it worked for 2 days and stopped working. I got a Craftsman and all is good so far. I got a 30gal one or something like that.

I was considering the same purchase decision the week after Christmas. Home Depot is currently offering a +/- 3HP compressor w/ 40 Gal. tank and a set of tools for $257 after rebate.
The problem is that as I browsed their selection of air tools, they all had a requirement for a minimum 5HP compressor. So, if I got the small, affordable compressor, I'm sure it would run out of air too quickly if I was using a sander, grinder, etc. that has a constant draw of air.
HD's 5 HP compressor costs $399 and that's without tools. I really wanted to DIRTFT (Do It Right The First Time) so I'm holding off for now, and using my electric tools until I can't stand it any longer.

da sanders eat air, as well as spray guns. If you want to do it once and do it right then get >60 gallons and >10cfm @90 psi.

There are plenty of 60 gallon comp with rates like 12 cfm @90 psi, get ready to drop some money though. I bought a craftsmen 30 gallon, because it was on wheels and thats what I needed and need at this time but it prevents me from spraying or sanding efficiently. I think in that size range everything is going to be belt driven which is alot quieter, but double check.

Get a big bastard that runs on 220. It's worth it. I got a CH from Harbor Freight and have no regrets. The Crafstman compressors had different looking motors than most of the others that I looked at. I don't know if they were different better or worse, but I figured the more common motor would be easier to fix if it breaks.

I have a non belt driven Craftsmen compressor and I think it is a 33 gallon, I love it. I do need better air tools as the ones that came with it are kind of eh.
