Bah, my Earthquake is still running strong removing axle nuts, etc with gusto. For $79.99, you can't go wrong.
Your money is better spent on a good compressor. In addition, for the homeowners out there, PVC hardlines run throughout the garage (with strategically placed hose reels) saves a lot of effort regarding running lines (and keeping them from kinking) and adds a huge amount of air capacity to your air tools...
So, my Earthquake is still running strong and capable of shearing nearly any bolt off.
I've used it for countless jobs and it's probably got 10 hours of actual trigger-on run time on it. I've also neglected to oil it and have accidentally left it in the rain once - for $79.99, who cares?
Decently compact, strong, cheap and pretty reliable so far. The only thing I don't like is it's sometimes hard to remove non-impact 1/2" sockets from it, but that's no big deal.
Unless you're running a business and NEED to count on it for said business there's no point in spending all that money on an IR unit. It's not like you're using the thing multiple times every day...
Did the Earthquake take off the really long bolt that goes through the rear trailing arms? I tried to take that sucker off the other day and my impact gun with 600 ft lbs didn't move it. Any tips?
There is an impact gun at Car Quest that's supposed to have 1000 ft lbs of reverse torque. It's on sale for $169 - I just may buy it!!

Those bolts are legendary for not coming out. You may have to cut them out.
Without an explanation is seems that you never even picked up this tool they are talking about and yet you say its garbage.. Where everyone else says its a good gun..
To funny.
i didn't read the whole thread, but i bought a $10 impact gun from harbor freight during the last sale they had, and it wouldn't even bust loose lug nuts. i'm taking it back, gotta get that $10 refund. next time i'm buying a decent impact wrench.
i have a 20 dollar harbor frieght one. havent oiled it since i bought it almost 2 years ago. works pretty good with my 89.99 special compressor too. hey, better than nuthin
90% of the shop i work at has this gun. Its great, but then again for the average BYM, its over kill.
Wow, didn't know Harbor Freight sold IR stuff...
No, my Earthquake couldn't take that bolt off, but it was rusted solid to the hub, so I don't think anything could've taken it off without shearing it.
It did, however, take off the 36mm axle nuts on my old G20 that hadn't been removed since Nissan installed them 12 years before. That same nut couldn't be taken off with a 3/4" Craftsman breaker and about 6' of cheater bar on the end of it. Ended up twisting the breaker bar.
Have you guys heard of AirCat Tools? They are great. So much quieter than the IR's and are decently priced. They have a 1/2" composite that weighs about a pound less than the IR 2135 TI.
