You cannot take the pins off the security hinges without using a sawzall or something. Take a look at your local highschool or Costco with the outswinging doors and notice that the pins are bucked on both ends with a drift pin located on the inside of the hinge. If you're gonna carry around a battery powered sawzall, I'd just go through the wall instead. Anyways, how would you design an outswinging door with hingepin on the inside?

C'mon now, don't you think someone would have already thought of that?

Nah, I was just wondering why the door seemed to be backwards. Now that you explain it, it makes sense. I guess I've just never paid attention to outward swinging doors before.

Update 11/17/07:

Light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. Got a call from the garage door fabricators and we're probably gonna be installing the week after Thanksgiving. Why the delay? We have no paved driveway....yet! The original demo and foundation guys came back in full force to start doing my new driveway with brick and soon to be poured concrete.

In the meantime, we had a chance to check out the Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs a weekend ago. Here's a shot of Dan Luckow's fastback....this car was doin' 1:31's around Big Willow and fending off former NASCAR road race cars.

Crappy underexposed shot of brick patterns being laid and they will serve as forms when the concrete is poured.

Today's shot of the dirt being compacted and rebar being placed. #4 rebar 20" O.C. with a 4-5" thick concrete pad. Say.....what's that little black post doin there?

A shot of the new stairway and landing for the entryway into the addition.

For those who were curious about the addition, here is the tile 90% done in the shower. Got the countertop for the tub and the bench in limestone too....we were lucky to have it fabbed as one piece with no seams.

Here's a hint for that little black square thingy in the driveway. I went to IMS yesterday and picked up some tube and some 3/16" hot rolled plate, welded it together, and sprayed some epoxy on it while it was still hot. Its a 24" long piece of seamless with an ID of 2". Had to do it at a friend's house since his 220 and MIG were handy.

Next up (hopefully), pics of the pour and my garage door.

-Jimmy

Here are some hints...

+ "removable" = more usable garage space FTW!

Pics of the new driveway up later this evening.

I dunno if its a West Coast thing, but I see them in parks all the time. I'm more of a gas griller, though.

Update 11/21/07

So right before Thanksgiving, everyone was rushing to get things done. The water main had to be trenched deeper and around the driveway, tile guy had to get a few last things in, painters had to finalize paint, etc.

The biggest thing to happen this week was the driveway pour. I've never had a level driveway before, let alone a level garage surface. I woke up extra early to make sure all the rebar was sitting on chairs and propped up a few inches before the truck got here. Pumper truck and mixer came early since everyone wanted to get the weekend started early as well.

So onto the pics...

Mixer and pumper truck arrive. Perfect day for concrete -- foggy, cool, and moist. When does that ever happen in LA?

Here's the scene right before they fired up the pumper. Notice that the bricks serve as forms and they were soaped down to make sure the concrete didn't stain them.

Pumping, pouring, and screeding...

Starting to float the surface to a "light broomed finish."

Today after 24 hours of cure and me wetting it down every so often.

View from the garage into the new patio/entrance to addition.

Garage door guys came in early this week to install the tracks for the roll-up. They'll be coming back on Friday to put in the door and we also waiting on our gate too.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Looking nice I'm assuming that is a two car? It just might be the pictures but it looks like two might be cramped in there.
