Help for Rick (convention pathfinder/trailer incident)

Originally written by Eric:

"Many of you were at the track, or heard about what happend, but if you didn't, this thread can explain it: http://www.sr20forum.com/2005-se-r-national-convention-austin-tx/111425-3200-miles-one-clutch-smashed-pathfinder.html

Cliff notes, Rick was being helpful in towing Matt's broken car to the hotel, and his 2 week old Pathfinder was damaged. The accident was no one's fault, and everyone's fault at the sametime. The estimate to replace the hatch, paint it and install it is $1266 and change. I've talked to Matt, and we are going to try a raffle or auction for some parts we have, but if you would like to donate to help get his truck fixed, that would be geatly accepted. Rick was helping someone he had just met the day before, and he shouldn't have to pay for this, or go through insurance, becuase he wasn't there when the car tried to go on the trailer."

Ok guys, the purpose of this thread is to hold an auction to help raise money to fix Rick's Pathfinder. I am accepting parts donations from people who want to help but don't have any cash to send. If you are like me then you probably have lots of parts sitting around the garage and basement. With the help of the people bidding on the parts we can turn them into cash to help the cause. If you wish to make a donation you can post here or PM me.

I will list the parts below and the current high bidder. Some items will have a "buy it now" price if the person who donates wishes. All the money will be sent to the SERCA Paypal account (southeast@serca.org) which is headed up by Eric. The people who donate the parts will be responsible for sending them to the high bidders.

I will edit this post as necessary to add items to the list below:

Matt,

Is there a paypal address that we can send a few bucks to? I think that would help collect some more money. I don't have too much money right now, but I can sertainly spare $5-10 to help out. Even if a good amount of people donate $2 that should help to offset the cost of what happened.

Let me get this straight. You and your buds damaged your friend's new truck and now you're soliciting forum members to help pay for the repairs? Are you kidding me? Geez, maybe I should create a sob story and get my door dings fixed, cause ya know, "the accident was no one's fault, and everyone's fault at the sametime"

Not necessarily. They're simply asking for anyone to help in an unfortunate event.

Whether or not you follow up is up to you. Hell, at 35$ a pop, you could get those groundwires from Toolapcfan, or do it through this event (same price from the same person) - but in this case it goes to help out in an unintentional accident.

sh*t, if someone got their car stolen due to neglect, thats another story.

You should come to the next convention - meet some really cool people with tons of collective sr20 (and other) knowledge,
have a lot of fun and maybe make some new friends.
Then you'll have a better understanding of the sr20 community and why people are giving to the cause.

Search the forum and se-r mailing list for previous convention write-ups. You'll find similar examples...

That is a very ignorant statement Hank. I guess you have no clue how people in this community/family/club take care of each other. In the future please take the time to educate yourself on a situation before posting.

Spoken like someone who has never been to a convention. At the '01 Convention, Larry Weeks spun a rod bearing at the track, and there was a donation going around so he could rent a truck and trailer to tow his car back to Chicago from D.C. In '03, chriscar spun a bearing and there was a fund to help him get a new motor, plus Greg Perry pulled his car off the trailer and towed it from Birmingham to Nashville, plus Grover got chris a place ticket home, and another to ticket back to Nashville to pick his car up after we put a new motor in his car. This community sticks together, and it like the Marines, "no man left behind."
