SR20 transmission overhaul??!! HELP!!

HELP i dont know how to rip that thing apart(the transmission) i have it out of the car and i have taken the obvious bolts off but i'm not sure if there is others inside.

Do you know of any manual that will teach how to overhaul it?

And what tranny would i have in a 91 nx 2000?
Is there a model number?

Thanks
Marius

Choice #2 is buying a Sentra Haynes manual (new or used) from your local bookstore or Amazon. It has a lot of pictures and diagrams and will help.

Choice #1 is searching the forums here for PHATG20.NET. When you find it and look around you will know what to do to get an FSM in soft copy.

91 NX would be an RS5F32V (if it has LSD) or RS5F32A (if no LSD), I do not know which. I think the 91 had the LSD type. Searching here will also tell you all about it.

Good luck. Transmissions are the most complicated parts you will find on a car.

I found the FSM at the link and i have one at home but the problem is that it does not go into taking the transmission appart.

I would assume that the cover simply comes off but i'm having a hard time prying it.
I am going to a Nissan service center to see if they have more detailed photos on the overhaul process.

Thanks
Marius

take off the the round peice on the back side of the tranny. there is a snap ring in there u gotta remove, then there is O but its in 2 peice. Use a flat head to push them away from the shafter and remove the casing

PM me if u need more details I did a quick run threw. Ive done this many of times

Snap ring has to come off from the very end. You might be able to use needle nose pliers to get it off.

Once that's off, the cover should slide right off. Then you'll be staring at a complex stack of gears and arms. You'll see a rod holding the shift forks together. That's the "pin on the grenade". Pull it straight out and the whole thing falls apart in front of you.

Better have a photographic memory of how it all goes together......

THANK YOU!!! i was able to take it appart withought having the grenade go off.
It turns out that the 5th gear fork is broken in two... i'll have pictures up soon. and it's gonna cost 52.49 to repace it (i had almost bought a new tranny and engine combination... so you saved me about 2k!)
Thanks again.

Do the gears/syncros look okay? 5th gear is a problem in the early cars.

While you have it off, flip the 5th gear ring around if you don't already have popout.. you can get a little more use out of the other side since it never hits the synchro.

Greg V. taught me that trick, pretty slick.

Edit: Just be careful and do it very slow, there are three spring-loaded keys in there you'll need to hold them in a bit while you slide the ring back on, I'd hate to have to go chase one down after it disappears in the garage.
