Possible VQ- B13/B14 swap kits...

I've been waiting for permission from the heiarchy to post about this..

With the VQ35DE swap kits finished for the Spec-V, I've had a LOT of interest in making a similar kit for the B13/B14 chassis. I will need a donor vehicle to prototype the first mount kit and get the car running. I will most likely offer a bolt-in kit, as I have done for the Spec-V.. however, there will be a few more parts that will be needed to make it work. Here's what I plan using for the prototype car..

VQ35DE (maxima/altima) engine
VQ30DE flywheel
VQ30DE 5spd transmission
VQ35DE Pathfinder throttle body
VQ30DE 96-97 ECU
VQ30DE Maxima engine harness
VQ30DE crank pulley
Custom mount adaptors with grade 8 bolts/nuts/washers
Spec-V axles (not 100% sure on this yet)
JWT programmed ECU (timing/fuel maps optimized/7500rpm limiter)
Stainless headers
Stainless y-pipe
2.5" mandrel VRS exhaust
2004+ Maxima MAF
Custom CAI

The axles are the ONLY thing that I'm not 100% sure about.. I have to do some measuring. The VQ30 trans uses a larger diameter axle than the SR20 gearbox.. so it's necessary to upgrade.

Anyway, whoever steps up to the plate, will get all of the above, installed in the car, turn-key for 4500.00. This setup will make around 250whp and 240wtq.

I will sell a mount only kit, for those who just want to get the engine/trans into the car. It will feature mount adaptors, modified Nissan brackets, grade 8 bolts, axles, and whatever other modified parts are needed. I will have pricing/details as they come.

Here's some pics of the VQ35 install kit and install into the Spec-V

I am looking to do this in the next 2 months.. as time permits. The donor car(s) will be needed for approx. 4 weeks. PM me if you are interested. Feel free to post questions here..

Thanks,

Travis

This swap will most likely retain the A/C system... I will have to look at it to see if it's possible. Power steering is also kept.. all of the guages will work, also.

what about the VQ35 trans? Many people will likely have less trouble finding an engine/tranny combo somehwere, rather than finding a motor then searching for another transmission.

I guess if I ever decide to go back to NA again, this might be an option

So... who's going to be the ginea pig?

Shoot, if I lived closer and my engine and stuff could be sold, id be down for it. But its a P11 (not B13/B14)

Built roller rocker, P11 tranny, turbo components, im sure we can almost scratch the $4k mark

I don't think the VQ35 6spd is going to fit without some major mods.. I will look into it, but I just don't think it's feasible.

How about I loan you my car, and then you finance the 4500 over a 5 year term, with 8%APR?

Sweet man. Never thought of this. Considering the sr20 can be worked, but hey who wouldn't love a v6 in a classic. I wonder how much it would add to front end weight compared to sr20 power. A vq in a classic set up for road courses would probably be mighty nice. Leave it in gear and just drive, lol.

Would you be able to do this with a vq30de? Probably would be cheaper considering the vq30 goes back to the 95 max. I'm sure there are plenty of vq30's in the yards.

how bad are the rear spark plugs to change? I imagine there's a little less room in the smaller engine bays and I haven't had the pleasure of doing it in my Maxima yet (good 'ol 100k platinum plugs).

I'm sure you hear a lot of this, but if I had another car to drive, didn't have a VE waiting to go in.... $4500 is a deal, no doubt about that. Driving the car down and back would totally suck but shipping both ways would suck even more.

For those wondering about the VQ30 ECU...

The reason I say to run that ECU, is simply to reduce the wiring nightmare. Few reasons... The VQ35 ECU uses drive by wire technology. This would mean wiring in the gas pedal and making up a subharness for that. The biggest thing, is that ALL VQ35 ECU's come with NATS (Nissan Anti Theft System), which uses a transponder key and matching IMMU. Basically, you would have to get a ECU, IMMU and key, ALL from the same vehicle in order to just start the car. Now, if you have a Consult, or access to one, this isn't such a big deal. However, it still has to be wired up.

If you use the VQ30 ECU, you can get away with using the VQ30 pulley. You have to make a mount for the crank trigger pickup sensor.. but, it's not hard. You don't have to switch the timing cover over.. You use the VQ30 flywheel and VQ30 pickup sensor. This will let you run the VQ30 ECU.

So, using the VQ30 ECU drastically simplfies this install. Yes, you will lose your VTC.. but, it's not THAT big of a deal. You might lose 5-10ft lbs in the low end/midrange. Using a 96-97 ECU means that I can have clark at JWT tune me a nice map to suit the VQ35's demands. So, besides the loss of CVTC function... it's really the best way to go IMO. I mean.. I don't mind wiring up a VQ35 ECU and harness... I had to wire up the NATS system in the Sentra.. and get that working. But, for the average Joe... I don't think most people would enjoy wiring one up. Unless you're really good at reading/interpretting wiring diagrams and voltage/resistance values, adding in resistors/etc where needed... this wouldn't be for the faint of heart.
