Just today I finished the first beta of both normal and pocket pc versions of my consult software, ECUTalk. All info can be found on the site: http://www.ecutalk.com
Software is based on the .NET Framework/.NET Compact Framework and thus ive been able to make most features of the standard app available on the pocket pc version.
Both versions have fault codes (read/clear), logging, gauges (with full screen modes and automatic placement/resizing to maximise display). In the future i hope to have graphs, active tests and rom dumping, but realistically that probably wont be till the end of this year at earliest (due to uni).
Youll need a consult interface (serial one for ppc, serial or usb if only using laptop) to use this and any software, www.blazt.biz and www.plmsdevelopments.com sell them. Or of course theres calums interfaces which a few people have been making boards for, for those who want to DIY.
Can I get this working with a 99 consult II port? My car is a 99 Sentra SE-L with a 97 200SX SE-R ECU. Can I get a consult board that will connect and communicate with my consult II port?
I downloaded the software and it installed perfectly on my HP iPaq h1945. I just need to find a serial sync cable and a consult box to interface with my consult II port correct?

ive read somewhere that consult 2 is backward compatible with consult 1, however i think that is the consult "computers" nissan have are backward compatible, ie support the 2 different protocols. however most (all) consult 1 software i doubt will work with consult 2 cars.
we need someone to get a hand on a consult 2 computer + car and work out how it all works so we can write software for it
I forgot to mention a very important fact....I edited my original post to state this...I am using a 97 200SX SE-R ECU. AND...I have used the MDM-100 which connects to the consult port to monitor my sensor information just fine. The MDM-100 was my friends which he used to connect to his S13 with a consult I port....so I guess that proves that the pin outs of the consult I and consult II are the same...and since I have a 97 ECU...should I not be able to use a consult box to connect to my consult plug and a serial active sync device for my PDA and be set? In theory it seems like it should work...any one think why it wouldn't?
as far as i know all "consult 2" cars are ODB2, ie they wont have the 14 pin grey connector.
but since s15 support consult 1, and i take it thats what a 200sx se-R is (i dont know USA cars), then it should work just like the S13 did.
you will also need the null modem adaptor for ur serial pda - because u want to hook up a serial "device" (as opposed to serial host in the PC for syncing). theres links on my site to some null modem adaptors, but any will do.

My car has both the 14 pin consult connector and the OBDII connector. On your website you state that ECUTALKPPC works with ipaq 2200...that pda seems very similar to my ipaq 1945. Do you know if the 2200 has a serial port or not...It doesn't look like it does...I looked at its spec sheet and it looks identical to my 1945 model...it sounds like in order for your software to work, the ipaq must have a serial port..is that correct?
Not to *** this program, but from the appearence, NissDataScan 1.5 is much better, it's like $25. Any consult program needs an OBD to RS232 converter to establish clock times.
So does it work on a pocket pc? I was under the impression that it would only run on a laptop?? Feedback is appreciated!

google tells me this thread might indicate that 2200 gained serial support. but i wouldnt trust anything either way before its been attempted.

your quite correct, datascan is only for laptop.
i made the laptop version to help test things id use for the pocket pc version (i use all the same controls and code for laptop as i do for pocketpc, except the actual interface)
i released it for free as i saw it might be useful for those with in car pc's or widescreens (laptop or carpc) which the gauges adapt to quite well. as i see it this is the main advantage over others, is that u can choose a number of gauges and they will be shown with as much screen usage as possible. i mean i could have not released the laptop version in order to not have people think "oh this is sh*t, datascan is better", but im not concerned about that, so if someone can make use of the laptop software, even if its just the carpc or widescreen laptop crowd, then im glad i released it, no matter how inferior it may be perceived to the alternatives.
if i was solely making a laptop version id could be much more complete by now, but i saw that the only pocket pc version of consult software was a bit of a ripoff at $600, so thought it was more useful for me to spend my time making an alternative to that, as opposed to focusing on laptop versions of which there is already 5 or so decent alternatives.
that there is finally an alternative to the $600 ecuextend ppc software, and its free i think is great in itself, and i really dont mind, and i conceed that there is better laptop software available

And I really appreciate that. Unfortunately, I found out after much research last night, that my h1945 does not have a serial port. So I'm looking at the trade-in programs to upgrade to a better ppc with a serial interface. Can you recommend any descent ones out...I will do my own research to pick a good one out, but it would be nice to get opinions about the quality of Pocket PC's out there.
FYI...I found a killer price for an ipaq h4150 which has all the benefits of my h1945 (super slim profile, blue tooth, record button on side, high contrast screen, fast graphics, etc.) plus much more including WIFI, 400mhz processor, and most importantly in this application a SERIAL PORT! Can't wait to get it.
Let me know when you get it running for the pocket pc. I have a H5455 and would love to get this running on it.
Have you tried to run the software? If I had a ppc with serial port like yours, I'd buy the blazt RS232 Consult Interface cable, a male-male null modem adaptor, a serial sync cable for the pda, download and install the software and give it a spin!
if you want a setup on the cheap, ecu talk ppc will work on a pda as crap as the jornada 540 (see second news post on site).
for good value, any ipaq that supports serial from around the wm 2003 range would be good - some of the very recent ones may not support serial (at a guess), and some of the cheap ones may not (as far as i know only the h1945 as saaby found out, the rz1710 does/should however).
to help find out for individual models, you can google to find out if people have got it working with a serial gps device. eg google modelhere serial gps null modem
