I've read some people did the 50/50 mix (50% paint, 50% minieral sprits and water).

What would you recommend. I'm buying my stuff within the next week and I just want to get all of the basics down.

BTW where did you get that sanding block.

Also how is the paint holding up so far? Any signs of fading, lots of rock chips?

for those of you using bondo and sanding otherwise, you might want to pick up a square drywall sander. it makes sanding 100x faster and easier. i bought one for $20 at sears.

No, you read a post that said you should add paint thinner until the mix is the CONSISTENCY of water, you do not add any water.

I used one of those in the bondo areas, it helped a lot.

The 3M sanding pads are good also.

I'm currently at UCLA, and my house (in norcal) is where the maxima is located. When I go back at around june, i can have more pictures. Until then, I guess you guys will have to wait :P. it came out damn good though

All of the things I bought from the project can be easily found at your local kragens, walmart, or hardware store.

Water doesn't come into the mix, well at least not for me.

I just did the 1 qt of rustoleum paint and the entire bottle of mineral spirits (30 fl oz).

The sanding block, I got from kragen. Make sure when you're sanding, you should do it with a hose running on the area to keep the surface cool and get the sanding really nice and even.

The success in this project lies in wetsanding, putting on very thin coats of paint, and patience. I rushed this project in about two days, but I think if you had a full week, the job could be even better.

Any more questions out there?

Ok, I'm doing this. I have really bad paint on my Sentra now, I have a garage to do it in, and I'm really thinking of doing a 2 tone red/black combo.

So here's what I'm thinking. Someone mentioned sunrise red is closest to Aztec red. Can anyone confirm this? I need something that is almost Aztec Red, maybe a little deeper red if possible. The other color will be gloss black.

I'm thinking of doing 3-4 coats of each color, then maybe 1-2 coats of clear over the whole thing.

What's a good tape to use in masking? regular masking tape isn't my favorite as paint sometimes runs underneath, I want to make a sharp line.

Is there any flex additive I can add to the paint for the bumpers?

You will need more than 4 coats of each color to get a thick enough layer of paint to wetsand. You need to sand after every 2 coats. I suggest repeating 2 coats and sanding 3 times for a total of 6 coats of color(the sanding makes it thin).

My bumpers don't seem to want to crack at all without any flex additive, but I am sure it would not hurt. All my masking came out great as long as I was careful applying the tape.

For those guys doing this. I'd suggest going to a junk yard and getting a hood or trunk or whatever scrap panel you can find. Better to practice on a POS then to start on your car and then go "Dang I shouldn't have done that". I threw in that dang since i live in georgia now.

Don't think this is super easy. Body work is a huge pain in the ass. I've been working on getting rid of the rust on my classic for like 2 weeks now (Two weeks because of being super lazy). It's dirty. If you have a little garage to work in its cramped. Its not precise. My paint work is totally amatuer but since it is just for metal protection and inside the engine bay , and also for my track car I really don't care on the pretty factor.

Good luck to the DIY's. I might have to try this later on for the track car.
