Is there paint like the Rust-oleum that can be used? Or have like home depot mix a color? I went there today to check out what colors they had and they didnt have much.

I went to walmart and they have very limited choices like red, black, and white.
Any where else you can maybe go to with more to choose from?
If walmart has a limited amount of choices, I think the best place to go is like a paint shop, or have home-depot mix you a certain color.
I only experimented on my mom's car with rustoleum. I'm not sure how other paints would work, but I'm sure they will work fine.

from what I understand, there isn't any (or very little) metallic in this paint so most colors will come out sort of flat. can anyone confirm this?
metallic flake has nothing to do with how flat or shiny the paint is. I think with more wetsanding my gloss black would look just as deep and rich as my factory black.

I didn't mean the texture of the paint, I meant that the color will come out flat, sort of resembling pastel colors which don't have any metallic in them, so they'll be sort of dull, something like the paint you see on lawnmowers and tractors, hope that explains it.
I know what you're saying. There's no depth to the paint. A smooth, glossy finish isn't the same is getting a mirror-like reflection, but I like the way the Maxima turned out.

You can get the mirror-like deep shine out of the black paint with enough wet sanding, but it takes hours and hours to step it down and get it smooth enough.
what sandpaper grit should I scuff my paint surface with prior to rolling on the first coat of paint? I am almost done prepping my trunk and it will be the first body part that I'll be painting. Using Professional Gloss black

IIRC, I used like 200 grit 3m sanding pads, they worked well. Get ready to sweat.
well I rolled the first layer on just a few minutes ago, and had my first "What in God's name am I doing" moment. The surface is looks absolutely horrific, with orange peel and thick roller marks hehe... Current weather 80F and 51% humidity. I coulda swore I added like 80% spirits to the paint in the rolling tray, and it still rolled on a lil' thick. Hmm will have to add alot more I suppose if I am to avoid anymore bad layers like the one I just did.
I rolled the first layer out in the sun, and so this thing is drying extremely fast. In a few minutes, I was able to touch the surface with my finger without having any paint transfer to my fingertip. Note to self: leave the f'ing gloves on until everything's put away, or hands will get painted smeared to hell.
It is looking like I need to sand this layer done almost back to the primer to get rid of the mess I made. Oh well, I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve, can't wait to start wet sanding this bitch
another good tip is to make sur eyou're wearing something that you really don't like and not got it on any clothes. oil based paints won't come off clothes!!
keep us updated with pics too! I'm doing this within the next few weeks.
yeah this stuff is like baby por 15, kind of a pita to remove from skin, though I noticed mineral spirits will get it loose real fast and easy. I was outside for about 20 minutes mixing up the rest of my paint, I added like 100+% mineral spirits this time hehe. I tried painting a usps priority box and my old b13 bumper, looks like it applies alot better now. I'm sure I have way too much spirits in the mix now, but I seriously don't wanna go back to having too little
I will probably borrow my gf's camera and take pics of the next few layers. Should be fun
Holy s$%^!!! This is right up my alley!!! Body work is not my thing at all, but this is something I'll definitely be doing. Man, I hope I can get to it this summer...
