just lookig for opinions

Hello all,

i have a 94 classic and it is n need of an engine.
i was thinking of either an SR16ve or just a SR20de jdm.
what are your thoughts???
oh, one more thing, this is going to be for my daughter, other wise i would just drop the avenir swap.

thanks for your thoughts...

imo just throw in a jdm motor(sr20de) if its for your daughter...its cheaper to go threw that route..im sure your daughter is not gonna get mad at you for not putting vvl in the car...lol

If it's for your kiddo, don't do the VVL. Too much money, for something that could potentially get her in trouble. I'd just drop a DE in and call it a day.

i have to also agree with everyone else unless your daughter is into SR powered cars. if she is, let her choose and have her help you install it. . it might be some good bonding time and a learning experience if you guys installed it together anyway. some girls like that stuff and some don't i guess.

have her join the forum

but i think i may have to agree with a regular de its probly much safer until she learns that she can cut a wire on the ecu and get rid of the speed limiter

sounds to me that you are set on throwing a ve, even though we've given you our impressions on what your best option would be for the car being for your daughter.

personally i wouldnt give a high power (ve or det/de-t) to my son or daughter until they prove that they have earned it, or put it together by means of themselves..

just my $.02

that sounds just like that terrible anime show about the AE86 drifting

but seriously i would swap in a BONE STOCK DE and call it a day. will your daughter really even know what the hell a VE is compared to the DE? is she the type of girl that will say " it gets kinda loud and a little fast........but the car is soooooooo cute" personally i think it would be a waist of money on the VE unless the girly likes to tinker with stuff and respects what is given to her.

personally my kids will have the most crap nasty car i can find. im talking mechanically sound enough to not leave the state they have to buy a nice car them selves.

You guys are absolutly right, she would have no idea the differance one way or the other, except dad is driving, see sig, here is part of my thinking.
she has 3.8 gpa and is always doing things to bring a tear to the old dads eye .

so it is not so much, do she need it, as i may just want to give her something nice, and this just may come down to money anyway, and the de may end up in this bad boy, she really wants a buttstang and there is NO WAY IN HELL, that is going to be her first car.

so do we spend $1500 or $700 is the real question???
which ever it is i will let you know how spoiled this one gets.
thanks again

she wants a suckstang because its cute. couldnt give 2 sh*ts how fast it is i assure you. i say install a bone stock DE....right down to the stock air box. paint the car, get some pretty wheels, call it a day.

not trying to be sexist however spending $$$$ on an engine that will never get its oil changed is a bad idea.

Go with the DE, and use the rest of the money on cosmetic mods/upgrades! I am sure she'd appreciate that a lot more...

Yup.

It's not like a stock DE in a Classic is going to be a turd by any means. It ain't a GA16. The car will still scoot plenty for a new driver, merging, passing, etc...no problems whatsoever with a stock DE. It will also be dead-nuts reliable. Later she (you) can add some simple bolt-ons if she has any desire for more power.

Spend that extra money ($800) on making it look nice. Interior, exterior, wheels, whatever needs some TLC. Plus a nice/decent stereo, maybe with an iPod hook-up or whatever youngsters like. She is gonna want some nice tasty tunes to jam.

actually this one is not going to need much. it already has coil overs, cd changer and indash DVD, backup camera and strobs for back up lights, ricey, carbon fiber hood, it really is not that bad a ride ...so it really needs nothing, but an engine and the AC fixed...thanks again for the input.

get a cheap "worn" DE and have her help you with a simple rebuild. or depending on the issue with the stock engine rebuild it! it will be about the same price or alittle more but MUCH better in the end.

-bearings
-rings
-complete reseal (very few gaskets, plenty of RTV)
-VE head gasket

DONT TOUCH JGY! PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!!!!!!!!
