Clutch Pedal Popped

I was about to drive out of a parking lot. I was about to shift into 1'st when I heard a loud pop. Now the clutch pedal has no play, no resistance whatsoever. I went and checked where the clutch cable goes onto the lever on the side of engine, and that wasn't secured. When i had someone move the clutch pedal up and down, that part of the cable i was checking wasn't moving. I called a place up and they said that it sounds like the clutch master cylinder, but our cars are cable right? my car is swapped btw with a 98 sr20de from a g20. anything i can do to diagnose my own problems??

x2. Take the cable loose at the clutch lever and pull on the "wire". If it comes out, it is broken. Also check under the dash to make sure the cable is still attached to the pedal. Stay away from shops that talk about clutch cylinders. They obviously know nothing about our cars.
Always check the easy stuff first.

your cable broke. It's common. Just get a new one from Nissan, or you can get one from the local auto parts place. They are sometimes not as good, but a lot better than having a clutch at all.

Your clutch will feel 100 times better after you fix this.

yea more than likely your cable has been fraying for like a year or 2 and you havent even noticed it feeling more and more like garbage. Going to feel like butter if its what broke and you change it

Thanks alot for the advice... If i think about it, the clutch was feeling a little worse but nothing major. It just sucked that it happend to break near a ghetto ass parking lot in Tacoma right by a "convenience store" lol. but its all good, itsa place i couldnt leave my car. what if the wire doesnt come out when you pull it?

if you absolutely need to get it out of there you can start the car in gear, keep in mind the car is going to buck like crazy before its gets going.

had this happen to mine, but the cable itsself didnt break. the little retaining puck popped off the end of the cable. could have re-connected it im sure, but a brand new OEM piece was cheap.

as for staying away from a shop that mentions clutch master cyl's, why? i think most shops can probably figure out what the hell a cable clutch system is, and are likely to be quite familiar with them. not going to a shop that 'doesn't know anything about our cars,' is slightly dumb..although the idea behind it is a sound one, the SE-R's make up less than 1% of the cars in nearly any demographic or geological configuration. a whole hell of a lot of superb mechanics arent going to know dick about an SE-R. they're not popular cars, and get virtually no recognition in this evo/sti/honda market that exists today.

would i take our '08 Z06 to any joe blow on the corner? absolutely not.. there is enough LS1/LS2/LS6/LS7 knowledge out by now that someone should have a reasonable idea as to what they're about. but an SE-R? pretty simple car to figure out.

dont mean to make an example of you, just also taking the 'oh noes!!' out of a relatively benign topic to begin with.
