Highport Picture Request

I am in the middle of doing a head gasket job on a highport sr20de. I plan on taking the head off with the intake manifold and top portion of the header still attached to the head.

Are there any brackets? or hoses? on the back side (near firewall) of the motor that connect the head to the block? Water pipes? Manifold brackets, etc...?

A picture of the back side of the engine would help alot

Looks like the head is gonna lift up with manifold and coolant pipes attached. Or maybe not.

Well the coolant pipes are connected to both the block and the head, and those rubber hoses are a PITA even with the manifold removed, much less still in place. I really think your best bet would be to go ahead and remove the intake manifold. You would need to disconnect everything on it anyway (if you were removing it with the head). Undoing a few extra bolts and getting it out of the way would probably save you time and effort in the end.

Why?

Detaching the exhaust primary from the head will be allot easier than separating it from the secondary. Also, removing the intake manifold isn't difficult, and will give you access to the parts under/behind it.

I see those rubber hoses. I will probably remove the intake manifold and remove the hoses from the head and the thermostat housing, but leave them attached to the block

There is a bracket connected from the throttle body to the block, then there is another bracket from the front of the engine, (pulley side) to somewhere behind the power steering pump. Be careful with the EGR tube. They love to crack!
Leave your exhaust on the car, disconnect the 2 brackets from the intake manifold. Disconnect the TPS, coolant temp switch and sending unit, fuel injector harness, fuel lines, and EGR, and try pulling the intake manifold with the head. There may be one or two more connecters or vacuum hoses than that, but thats the majority of it.
