B13 SR20 "blown" engines??

Ok, at first I used to think years ago that these engines were just the result of neglected oil changes. Now that I see it's as common as a Ford transmission failure, I must suspect there's a design flaw in the early models. I'm guessing this is a horse that has been buried several times, just trying to understand the common denominator. Seems main and cam bearings are spun very often or they "throw" a rod through the block. I remember the low-port early engines being desired, but then I see quite a few people go with the 00-up DE engines I guess because they're roller engines. Thanks for any non-flaming inputs.

Most are because of poor maintenance. My B13 had 190k on it when I sold it almost 2 years ago, and I think it's still running. Others have similar mileage on the original motor. As long as the oil is changed and doesn't run low, the engine is very strong. Others are blowing them up with big turbos and a poor tune or not the correct supporting mods.

In my opinion, too many people "found out" about these cars and modified them and didn't know what they were doing. Let's face it, back circa the year 2000, the 91-94 SE-R and 91-93 NX2000 was really quite "underground" - no one outside of the enthusiasts knew what they had. I saw lots of Sentra SE-R's driven by people who obviously didn't know or care what they had (not that there's anything wrong with that, they just needed a car I guess)

dented oilpan is very common. The pickup is real close to the pan on a de.
One straddled roadkill whacking it is enough to restrict the oil and spin a bearing.
My DE has 245,000 so far,no signs of failing anytime soon.
Oil changes are definately a key

Wow, good to hear it's in good hands and running strong. Still miss it though.

No Comp

In saying that about not looking after an SR. My mate had a nice p11 with a few mods. Swapped it for a gtx for the weekend. The Primera came back on a trailer.

Compression test showed 0 psi in #3

That's from a weekend of doing skids i think.
