Fiberglass/CF door skins

I might fab up fiberglass and/or carbon fiber door skins if there's enough interest. Inlaid metal inserts for the hinges and maybe a blank where you can affix some type of lightweight latch to keep it shut. However, since the skins will be so light, I could do some lightweight hinges that would bolt into the stock hinge holes. Who was doing the CF trunk lids? Maybe they'd do doorskins if you asked? If nobody else is doing them and there's enough genuine interest I'll give it a try later on this summer. I'll start a new thread to gauge interest later on but be thinking about it. If there was enough interest, I'd do front fenders, hoods and trunks as well. What's a CF hood or trunk go for anyways?

No carpet is great! Haha, yes its my only car and daily driver. I never really liked the carpet, its loud when the top is on, but the top is never on so it doesnt really matter....I'll get some pics ASAP...the inside is a little rough, cause I'm still getting a lot of the tar off!

Someone said "why lose weight, when you can make power instead?" ....um, duh, because losing weight is FREE, and T03/04's and 3 transmissions a year isn't. And besides, I'm sure gas mileage gets real good under 2000lbs. And less stress on suspension and driveline. I just don't see the negatives(besides looks of course).

the weekends accomplishments

and just when you thought it was over[]
Just came in from giving everything a second coat of gloss black enamel. I used an Enamel spray paint for a little more of a durable finish. The floor matts will protech the foot well areas and no one will be venturing in the rear so i think will be ok.

yeah, that was me, and i was, um, joking, and sh*t.

seriously though, losing weight isnt necesarily free. there are some things that people are taking out of their cars that are there for a reason. if you remove your bumper support, your insurance will no longer repair your car. if you got in an accident, and it totaled your car, you could be out the $1 to $20000 your car is worth. not free.

door bars are there to save your life, even with a roll cage, i would keep my door bars in, those door bars keep the sheetmetal of your door together in a crash. with a cage, if your door sking gets ripped off, the only thing keeping you away from foreign objects is a relatively thin bar, which may stop a car from intruding, but not its small parts. i had one of my lungs collapse (random event, not due to any trauma of any kind, but that can very easily happen from shrapnel entering your car) and it cost $98,000 and i nearly lost my life. not cheap.

and dont tell me you guys are gonna cut up your car with a $5 hacksaw. good sawzalls are expensive, and so are the blades.

i am totally for weight reduction, but remember, its not as free as you might think. remember to think everything through and ask yourself "is this worth it?"

and, for the record, i have broken 3 transmissions, yes, but i broke 1 on the motor, 1 turbo'd and 1 from assembly error. this happened over the last 3 years.

as always, YMMV and use your own discretion, just proceed with caution whenever removing stuff other than sound deadening.

and sh*t.

MY question was regarding Sirnixalots car not yours. You posted while I was looking at his pics, so I didn't see your post.
