My car really looks ugly without dash, I want to put an aluminium dash, what do you think? any ideas about it?
My uncle could make it, but I want a good design,
thanks.
i dont see the benifit of an aluminum dash, it would probably be heavier than the stock one. if you gut the dash, all the heating/cooling ect. and just put the shell back on then i think you are better off. someone correct me if im wrong?

what else is there under the dash other than the steel tube and the heating and air stuff and that metal brace under the steering wheel that i can take out.
i recently took my headliner out and the cardboard above itand the handels on the roof.also we took off stock exhaust and fart can and made a side exhaust.it comes out right in front of the rear tire
ok, an aluminum dash would be heaver than the stock one. the stock one only weighs like 10 lbs. if you dont like how it looks without it then put it back on. dont make a metal one that will be heavier.

Grab and a Dremmel and get to work. Every unused piece of metal must go.
Also , have you "gutted" your wiring harness? You can get rid of miles of unused wire.
Just be careful what you snip.
As far as the dashboard thing, if you can make a nice aluminum one, it would look bad ass.
I never weighed my headliner. I would guess 2lbs.
I went ALL OUT and removed my rear bumper.
Hell, my boys Rabbit and GTI dont have one.
well its not so much the headliner but the carbord and handels and interior light and wiring for it.each handel has a metal brace behind it plus the screws to hold them in.i would say 6 or 7 pounds for it all

Did you ever get pics of your ride?
Im interested in how your interior looks compared to mine.

hey guys this is my first post here sence ive been reading it for the past 3 days !! longest damn thread ever! but some vvery interesting stuff. i wouldnt go down to taking off 2 pounds here and .25 there. but i would like to take out some crap behind my dash ! i am totally keeping the heater ! i dont care if it takes a half second off my car, its damnnnn cold at 5 in the morning! (daily driver) ive taken out ac and stripped trunk ! and now i would like to take out some crap behind the dash then eventually cut out the trunk and replace with a lighter meterial.. soo what is there exactally behind my dash i can lose. (NEED THE HEATER) and what kind of weight loss am i looking at ? and is it hard to get the dash off?
Dash is tit to get off. First off, you can lose that (11 lbs.), and then go from there. I don't remember exactly what is back there to take off since I just started ripping things out that I knew wasn't important.
Keep us informed man.

if you're not into losing the .25 or.50 lbs here and there, there's not too much back there.
The only thing REALLY heavy would be the FIREWALL BLANKET. This thing is thick rubber and heavy as hell.
Definitely worth a "toss to the dumpster".
I'd say the blanket is 8-10 lbs.
The dash is easy to come off if you ask me. Theres only a few screws holding it on.
yeah that's right. forgot about the fire blanket. i have half of mine off and yeah it was a hefty amount of weight.
once again the dash is easy, besides taking all of the pastic off (such as steering column, center console and glove box, which is all easy) there should only be two bolts up next to the windshield and then two bolts down at the bottom of the dash (one on each side).
Hi, I took off my trunk supports, I only have those necesary to close my trunk, but I can't close it!!! It is folded, after this my trunk is like a piece of paper What do you recommend me to close my trunk??? I have my original wing, so I can't put "hood pins or trunk pins". I am worried about this.
Pd. I think my car is now weighting 22XX lbs (no dash, trunk and hood supports, passenger seat, and some other yeah!!!

Well, if you're talking about putting your trunk lid back on and wonder if hood pins would work, then yes is the answer. Just ask Figgy (6 posts up, with the red car), he has it done to his in a picture of his car.
Ic, well the only thing I can think of with the spoiler on still is right next to the spoiler but on the side closest to the back window. I think that should be fine there, it's far enough back in order to hold the trunk down still.
