That is with 5 gallons of gas, 1 stock SE-R seat, stock wheels with 195/60's, door bars, sunroof, stock Nissan battery, and all stock windows in the car riding on stock suspension.
I think I can save 25 pounds with a race seat, 40ish pounds by getting rid of the sunroof, 22-44 pounds by cutting out door bars (not sure of the weight, heard 11 pounds each and 22 pounds each), 20ish pounds from a small battery, 40ish pounds from lexan windows (yet to be installed), and a few pounds from aftermarket suspension tweaks ( lowering springs which are shorter use less steel to make, right? Not sure how much weight can be saved buy replacing the stock gas tank with a trunk mount fuel cell yet, I'm guessing 8-10 pounds.
Looks like 115-120 pounds MORE can be taken off of 1989 pounds. 1869 seems like a nice number to me!
If I go with a set of light wheels, 10-22 more pounds can be shed.
The car still has working brake, tail, and turn signal lights. Wipers and headlights as well as horn are still functional also.
I will claim the title of "Lightest SE-R" soon, very soon.
BTW... adding a cage will add 36-50 pounds to the final weight.

Yea man, this thread is cool! I was wondering what kinda weight removing p.s. would get. Probably only like 15lbs...that would suck. anyone considered tube-framing the front end? I wonder if that would lose a lot of weight or not...probably not since unibody cars are so light anyway.
yeah the power stearing pump will lighten up and also i for get the ratio but i think for every 1lbs you take off of rotating mass it takes off 8lbs or something like that

Not bad at all.
Did you weigh it at a truck station?
Lose that sunroof for sure!!!
The motor is ridiculously heavy.
I cant wait to see the finished product!
To everyone else:
Lose those stock wheels!!
They are a scary 16 lbs of rotating MASS-ive heart attack.
I used 9lb Miata wheels to cure that headache. Thats 14 lbs I lost!! 14x6 isnt bad either. Im not sure what the offset is.
You'll have to bore out the middle to 60mm

i jhave a friend really into miatas and gonna have him get me a set of those from some1 on his forum or something, all the junkyards i have talked to wants 30+ a wheel, mostly the number that rolls off their tongue is 50 or 60ea.
anyways, they are between 8.5-9 pounds!! and the offset is 45 (nearly all the miata wheels are 45, except the 97+ wheelswhich are 40mm) those wheels are the BBS 30 spokes from the m editions if i am correct.
So Im pretty much happy with what I have stripped so far. New since the last set of pics is the removal of the tar in the rear sections of the car. Only the tar under the drivers and passengers seat remains(for now?). I also removed some dash parts front the drivers side. Everything under the wheel is gone, including the metal knee brace. The biggest difference is the fact that I painted the floors flat black from under the seats to just into the trunk. After I got done stripping the tar the poor car looked like it had been through a fire. I think it look much less Ghetto like this. There are 3 more things on the plan sheet for sure as far as weight stuff goes. 1. Lightweight seat(s), 2. Relocated battery, 3. AutoPower race bar. A possibility for the plan sheet is gutting the rear doors of window regulator stuff and switching to lexan windows. Let me knwo what you think.
No I will not remove the Hellas

I always weigh my cars on the same scale, the one at the local landfill. It has to be calibrated ever so often just like any that are used for trade.
Sunroof will be out in a day or two. 1949 should be nice.
Everthing else will come out and go in over the next 6 weeks or so.
I can't wait to see how light it can get. I have a few other items in store that will shed weight, but they are staying secret for now.
What is the best way to remove the stick glue residue that is left after the tar is removed? i was thinking about trying some paint thinner. Just want to see what works the best.
You can remove the starter and park it on a hill, it's a heavy little f*&%er :p
