switch to synthetic @ 100k miles?

I just passed 100,000 miles and was wondering if it would be ok to switch to full synthetic. Is the engine to old to switch? Maybe switch to semi-synthetic and then switch to full synthetic?

Right now i'm using Castrol GTX (non synthetic).

I switched to full synthetic at 98K and had no leaks/problems. You should be OK.
Did you switch from semi-synth of non-synth? Did you do a complete flush, or did you just drain the old oil and add the full-synth?

I just went from non-syn to mobil1 full-syn. No flush treatment or anything, and I doubt that'll do any good for our engines. Doing an oil change like every 1000 miles is a better way to clean your engine.
I change my oil & filter about every 2k miles, i never let it get black. I use castrol syntec usually unless i am going to the track, theni use Mobil-1 full synthetic. I am thinking of using full synthetic all the time but it can get pretty expensive changing my oil every 2K miles....so for now i will be using Castrol Syntec.

The color of the oil like black doesnt mean the oil is bad . Mobil 1 full syn. can run twice as long as regular oil

I switched from dino to 0w30 Amsoil - the rep told me to top off the dino w/ a qt. of synth for the remainder of the time between changes, then run straight synth. after that. I got a lot of burnoff initially (about a qt. every week or 2) then it stabilized at the 2nd change (~2500 mi). The car has been running smoother, stronger and quieter ever since

I don't think changing from non-syn to full syn won't harm the engine in anyway. I have heard people say that changing to synthetic after an engine never used synthetic is bad for the engine but i doubt it. Synthetic is a much better quality oil so changing to it should not harm it at all. When i bought my car it had 70,000 on it and I have changed my oil every 5,000 miles using modil 1 super-syn and no leaks or anything.

I don't know about changing Synthetic every 2k miles. That's a bit soon. It's made to go 4-5k between oil changes. Out of habit I still do the standard 3k thing. With a K & N filter it gets expensive per mile to do it more then every 3k

hey man you can switch to full synthetic anytime you want, it doesn't matter how many miles are on your motor, its just better more refined oil, its better for your motor at any age. so i say go for it, i run synthetic on my car and i have 79000 miles on mine and it had ran on castrol GTX its whole life until i got it and the car runs and drives great with synthetic. honestly it really doesn't matter what kind of oil you use, oil is oil, but if u want your car to last for a long time with minimal maintence run mobil one synthetic or castrol synthetic.
