wheel question offset /interchangability hehe

ok a friend of mine has a set of 17*7.5 inch rims I woudnt mind having he has a 200sx 95-97 ? duno what year exactly any way he had 215 /40/17 tires on it I think
he trasnferd those tires to his new rims and I got one of the rims to try I had a set of 215/50/17 so I had one tire put on one rim and it hit the spring perch on my 91 B13 strut duno what offset the rims are but I duno if going to a 40 series tire would be small enoughf to clear and I called a tire place and they said with a 17 in rims a 40 series tire would be right to keep the same tire size ? any ideas /experience . TIRE RACK .COM shows the same rims for both
cars so are the offsets the same or different ?

Re: wheel question offset /interchangability hehe

That combo is an inch larger in diameter than the stock wheel and tire. 4.5% larger. You really need a 35-series to be less than 1% off. If it hits the strut, give it back and thank him for letting you try it. Or, buy longer studs at 8 bucks a pop and spacers. Me, I'g go with the first option.
