I e-mailed Technosquare about the CMX manuals, which are written in Japanese.
They said they would e-mail me the English version when it is translated.
Mine arrived yesterday. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with the stock 98' ECU, all i get is "communications error 02". I guess I'll have to wait until I swap in the 97' JWT Turbo ECU.
Thanks Greg for setting this up. Much appreciated.
So you have to add like 6 degrees from what the unit says in order to know what your timing is?

It displays the timing at the ECU, not the base timing.

So they are different?

The ECU is constantly adjusting the timing - advancing / retarding from the base timing setting.
You set the base timing, then the ECU adjusts for different conditions.
I watched mine on the MDM-100 for awhile yesterday. It displayed anywhere from 5 to 34 degrees.
The CMX instructions are *very* simple, as it only has 2 buttons as you know.
Right button: Switches from TeMP-SPeeD-INJ-AFr(MAF). Temp is in *F, Speed is in MPH, INJector duty cycle is in %, and AFr (MAF) voltage is in, duh, volts. Left button: Peak recall of the currently-displayed parameter. You can *only* do peak recall of one function at a time, the one that is being displayed.
Set the CMX to INJ, for example. Make a dragstrip run. After the run is over (before the ignition is turned off) and press the left-most button. Voila', it will tell you the highest INJector % attained during the run.
Same for the other parameters.
Just a tip: Using peak recall on the SPeeD parameter is kick-ass at an autocross for seeing if you went faster or not.
I'm sure I can figure the CMX out, it's just nice to have the manual, in English.
I've only played with the MDM so far. Peak recall for 2 live parameters is nice!
I know my O2 sensor is good, watching it switch back and forth, rich/lean.
The MAF voltage relates to the intake air temperature, right? If so, does anyone have a chart listing the temperatures that correspond to the MAF voltage readings?
Voltage relates to the amount of air flowing through the sensor. I've noticed that the voltage changes just like a vacumm gauge would. For example at idle I my MAF is at 1.60-1.65V. If I was going say 2500rpm in 5th gear at 1/4 throttle or 0.84V TPS it would read ~2.4V. Say I go from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, the maf would go from 2.4V to 3.4V. Just like how a vacuum gauge would read ~15inhg @ 1/4 throttle to ~7-9inhg @ 3/4 throttle. I peaked at 4.58V during a 2-3rd gear WOT run.

No, its not the temperature. It measures the amount of air, BUT, if the air is colder, there is more (its denser), therefor resulting in a higher voltage. Also, about your comparison to a vacuum. The reason for this is that the MAF voltage is a non linear representation of airflow.
Thanks Greg, i got my MDM (+alarm) this morning, all the way over in the UK. After initially having doubts as to whether it would fit on my consult port, i can now confirm that it does indeed fit and function correctly. I am now a very happy man, especially as my local nissan dealer also gave me the Nissan FAST program on my laptop today aswell.
Hey guys, Have any of you tried using an mdm-100n on any other pre obd-2 nissans? I'm very interested in buying one, but i'd like to make sure it would work first. Yes, i'm going to contact techtom now also, i just wanted to see if anyone had already tried it.
I have tried it on a Z32 300ZX-TT and it works just fine, but when I pluged it on a Nissan Quest, it kept saying ERROR.
Guess MDM-100s don't like vans.
