Does it have the 4.0 or the 318? I can't read what the badge on the tailgate says..

Here's a good jeep link that will make you want to spend more money for no good reason:

http://www.kevinsjeepparts.com/

His lift kits are really.. really nice.

Its the 5.2 aka 318. I wanted the extra torque of the V8 for towing. Thanks for the link too his stuff looks really nice! That 7" long arm lift kit would kick ass. First things first though I need a new tranny and I have to fix a few things to get it titled and registered. It has a salvage cert curently b/c its a theft recovery.

My brother's has a Grand Cherokee with the 318 and the superlift 4" kit.. It doesn't ride as bad as my Skyjacker kit, but I'd much rather spend the money on the long arm kit.. I'm surprised the tranny went.. I always thought the ones they put behind the 318 were pretty stout. Is it high mileage? My whole family drives jeeps.. and there are no less than 5 of them sitting in the driveway and garage at home..

Thet are awesome trucks. I had a 95 with the 5.2 and it ran awesome. What's wrong with the tranny? The Viscous coupler in the transfer case is very common on those with the 5.2. You may want to change it when you have the trans out.

Stratton: I'm sure it will tow the NX at some point

e_: I've been reading on the jeepforum that these trannys just go out sometimes. It only has 131k on it. I'll probably rebuild it and keep it for a spare.

Infiniti: Yes I've heard that the viscous goes out on the np249 after a while. I am planning on switching to an np242 anyway though. The tranny has no reverse and it acts goofy sometimes when shifting.

Maybe the tranny was thirsty or something? I've fed mine lots of water of the years and it just keeps going and going! It seems to have an undeniable thirst for the muddy water of the Loyalhanna.. the same water they use to make Rolling Rock.. which really surprises me that it hasn't puked yet.

Hmm, sounds like the torque converter or valve body. Could be a decently cheap fix, but if the converter died, you might as well rebuild the tranny because when they go, they like to send shrapnel through the rest of the tranny.

$1300 is a disgustingly good price. Gonna be nice in the wintertime as well...

nice buy matt! wish i would i have seen it 4sale its even the white color.

my oldest brother is all about jeeps. he has a 89 wrangler and 2001 cherokee, both with 33's. if you're gonna lift the grand, my suggestion is just go with the spring spacers and good shocks and it will retain a very comfortable stock ride. you should be able to clear 31's and its the cheapest way to lift it.

sorry to venture off-topic, but do you by chance stil have that rear seat? or did you toss it by now? lemme know

I was just going to suggest the 242 swap I personally like being able to go from 2wd to 4wd instead of saying in 4 all the time with the 249. Jeep should have put the 242 in that thing from the factory.

Greg: Thanks man Yeah we should have a tow vehicle challenge at the convention from now on. The 5.2/5.9 ZJs are pretty quick for stock suv's. I'll have to throw some serious mods on it though (who makes a bolt on supercharger?) once you get the '06 lightning though

Steve: Yeah I have a feeling its going to need a newsed tranny. The price was right for sure even with the issues.

Jim: It wasn't local. We had to drive all the way to the Catskills region of NY, 380 miles each way. I was nervous driving it back given the trany probs and the fact that it doesn't have a title right now only a salvage certificate lol. As far as a list is concerned I think I'll go with the Rubicon Express Budget Boost for 2" at only $220. It gives room for 31x10" tires. Yes please get that rear seat out of my basement!

Infiniti: Yup I think you are right. They should have made all the Laredos with the 242. And saved the 249s for only the suburban mom Limiteds
