Well, just got back from today's autoX. The new wheels & tires plus the swaybars made a big difference.... so big that I have to relearn how to drive my car! I wasn't very happy with how I ran today (I was about 5 sec behind the B15 that beat me by only about 3 sec last weekend ), but I did improve with each run, so I guess I just need more seat time with my newly-tuned box. On the upside, I could consistently lift up my inside rear wheel through a couple of the turns, so it looks like my swaybars are working! It looks like the next big mod I need to do to improve my autoXing is to improve the dynamic performance controller that's between the wheel & the seat!

Quick update:

626 lip and ThermoBlok spacers are sitting, just waiting to be installed! The nice, four-day weekend I have coming up should fix that, though. I love working for the gov't...

Update:

Well, I didn't end up getting either the lip or the spacers on this past weekend; just spent it being lazy. I may try to get the spacers on tonight, depending on how the weather holds up. I hate not having a garage...
If all goes well tonight, the extra oomph from the spacers should be a nice change for Sunday's autoX! Even if the gain isn't much, I'll take what I can get! Speaking of autoX, the pictures from the last one were finally posted on my region's website, but I guess the photographer didn't find my car photogenic enough. I was really hoping he caught a pic of me when I was up on three wheels. Oh well, perhaps this weekend! (The #49 white 240SX is my friend & roommate Nick, and there's also a pic of the B15 that's been beating us )

UPDATE!
Finally took some pictures of the little things I've been doing lately. First, my leather shift boot:

Next, an all-black grill:

And finally, LED-backlit instrument cluster!!!

I love that bluish-white LED glow!!

I also took my car in and got a four-wheel alignment done. The tech was a long-time autoXer, so I knew my baby was in good hands! He hooked me up with a great all-around setup: ~1/32" total toe out front, 0" rear; -1.5* camber front, -1.4* camber rear. The E was muuuch sharper on turn-in after getting the wheels properly aligned!

I ran my last autoX of the season this past Sunday () and I think it's safe to say that my mission to turn my lil' E into a stealth fighter is a success! She is now an absolute blast to drive, especially when carvin' corners! After my first run on Sunday, one of the other drivers looked at my car and asked, "Dang! How big is that swaybar? You were just flat out there!" And watching Nick's runs in my car (yes, I let him co-drive with me, and yes, he beat me again...), I got to see just how flat my car was when cornering! It was beautiful! I feel really good about how my lil' project went.

The next step will be a much longer process than this one was: cosmetics. I plan on giving my E a thorough, and much-needed cleaning, getting her dings repaired, and then getting her repainted! I'll probably ditch the side cladding but keep the bumpers unpainted. I'm thinking about going with the same color for the repaint, but I'm also thinking gunmetal could look good. Thoughts, anyone?

I say go for a grey/gun-metal look. It'll match the unpainted bumper better.

I would paint the bumper too. It'll add some more value to the car. Also, if you don't like it you can always strip it later.

I agree, paint the bumpers lol. Why is it your last AutoX?

Also who did your alignment and how much was it? I probably need one REALLY bad lol.

I'll be down at Maxwell AFB for a six-week course starting 9 Oct, and all of this season's remaining autoXs are during then.

I got the alignment done by Andy (I'm pretty sure that was his name) at Bosley Tire at Broadway & MacArthur for ~$230 (that was for all four wheels plus camber bolts all around).

good job with the build....i had a 91 xe and everyone thought it was a se-r by the way it drove...loved the look on their face when I told it was just a lil ole 1.6!
paint the bumpers it gives the car a more completed look...jmtc

if you want im still borin out 1.6 intake manifolds and mounting 2.0TBs to them let me know if you want one....greatyly helps throttle response!!

get some spacers and cut the spring perches on your shocks and you could fit some nice 215 wide azenis tires on their and really really rip it up

or snag some BFG G-force sport tires and they would do much better than 512's. i had gforce's on my b13 with ksport coilovers and they were great summer tires.

This is a great project bro. I have a SE that I'm going to start modding soon, if I find a job. I have a question about the dash, do the tach and speedo work correctly. I was under the impression that you needed a diff ecu to get the correct mph reading.

Oh, if you get an aftermarket ecu, whether it be JWT, or megasuirt, with a header and cams, you should put at least 130 to the ground if not more. Lightweight flywheel and pullies and you'll really be cookin. Well Gotta go to class.

Thanks for the accolades, guys!

Zeek234 -> I got a '92 SE-R cluster, replaced the main illumination bulbs with 5-LED cluster "bulbs," rolled the new odometer to match my original one, rearranged the pins/wires in the harnesses and bolted the new cluster right in! :-D

SrDexterSr -> My tach and speedo work, but my speedo reads ~5mph faster than true. The ECU won't do a thing for the speedo b/c it's mechanically-driven from the tranny; they changed to electronic speedos in '93. :-) I've tried to look into how to fix this, but it doesn't bother me anymore as I've gotten very used to reading my speedo with a mental -5mph adjustment. :-)
