$900 civic DX

Picked up this thing for cheap, just need a beater DD and a car going to the city.

Did the basic tune up all new filter (even fuel) thing runs good for 206,888 miles, but it does need an input bearing like most of them do. Anybody in the chicago land area selling a 1990 honda 5 speed cable tranny?

The outside

BOOO direct port needs a better engine

And as for paint. . . . yes the $50 dollar link I found a long ass time ago, recently posted on the off topic section

And so the $50 paint job begins, lots of sanding a little fiberglass in the holes (should use a metal piece welded in) and a little bondo later.

First get some tunes going, worked from about 7pm to 130am and just got the first coat on

Found a little rust behind the rear bumper didnt really care, use the air to get all the lose stuff out then undercoating. Also bent the trim piece that goes under the hatch part, thought the nut as lose but I pulled a little hard.

All masked up and a sanded down I began

What it looks like after the first coat, I thinned it out to about 50/50 mix but I think it was a little thin going to do a 60/40 for the next coat maybe a 75/25 but we'll see how 60/40 works.

I cranked the thermostat to about 85 degrees hopefully get up do a quick wet sand and get the next coat on.

the final coat, need to wait a few weeks to fully dry so I can get the rubbing compound and buff it out. Still need to give it another wet sanding so that the buffing will not suck as bad, so far it wasnt bad didnt run into any big problems just make sure the floor is good and damp to keep dust down.

nice find. We found when using that paint method that it depended on the temperature and humidity, how to set the mix up. Like, basically you had to try it each and every time unless you are lucky and doing it in a nice garage with constant conditions

Go with thin. It saves a lot of time sanding out orange peel and roller strips later on, just be patient, it takes a lot fo nice thin coats and then if you really follow the method, it will look awesome and be totally solid paintjob.

keep us posted

yeah I had the garage heater set around 85 degrees the entire time I did the paint and its fairly cold this weekend so the humidity should be low.

I did the final coat and looks ok not as much orange peel as the previous coat so buffing I dont think will be all that bad.

Nice Rex I had a 91 but was rusted to hell and back

Almost there, now I need to wait a few weeks for the paint to fully dry got a lot of wet sanding and buffing to do.

I also got the short shifter in and the plastic bushing to tighten up the shifter thing was loose as hell, not now though.

I just have to replace the rear piece below the taillights and straighten the front piece other than that almost there.
