Aztec Red Headache B13 Restoration Part II

For those of you who want to see the first part, check it out here:

http://www.sr20forum.com/members-rid...ots-picts.html

Anyways....after my senior year of school, I finally jumped back into this SOB restoration project I have code-named the Aztec Red Headache. My body guy painted the engine bay and the block, and as you can see, they both turned out really well. The bay is a bit dusty...don't mind the poor pictures.

Here are a couple of the block, done in a metallic gunmetal flake to match the B14 rims. This is the motor mostly re-assembled. The valve cover is not painted yet, but will be painted in the Subaru Red Mica like the engine bay and soon to be rest of the car. All of the brackets on the engine were painted gloss black with an epoxy based, automotive high-temp paint. It's absolutely gorgeous.

When we pulled the motor, we discovered that the passenger side ball joint was very shot. Here's the new Moog balljoint pressed in and ready to go.

The tranny and rear mounts with fresh Prothanes pressed in.

The bulky composite dog bone was replaced with a cleaner, stronger Turbo Time chromoly dog bone mount. Notice the size difference between the cro-mo mount and the Prothane inserts.

The flywheel re-surfaced and ready to go. I decided to keep the stock flywheel because this car will be turbo'd (or that was the plan).

Here is the tranny, all cleaned and polished up.

Looky looky....AD22VF and Altima MC upgrade. Maxima rears and Crowne brake lines are also coming as soon as I can afford it. The front calipers were painted with silver caliper paint to keep them from rusting up on me.

Look at the size difference between the AD22VFs and the stock AD18VFs.

Also, check out the rotors....they are nearly the same size.

The big difference is the thickness...look at those NX bad boys!

These also arrived while I was working on the car...a set of Vibrant performance laser cut exhaust flanges for the VRS tubing kit. The exhaust is a SS Autosh*t header, VRS 3" SS tubing kit, a Magnaflow polished SS 3" round high-flow cat, Magnaflow SS 3" X 16" resonator, and a 3" X 5" X 8" SS Magnaflow Muffler. It will all be tucked up close to the body with no fancy exhaust tip.

Here's me adding the final touches to the motor before the swap. Notice the mohawk...the women loved it, but I got sick of gelling it all the time.

Heres the motor all ready to go. Pretty, no?

*oh...forgot to mention...the Mezier water pump hadn't come yet, so intead of a block-off plate for the water pump I used a rag

A buddy of mine drove an hour to come and give me a hand dropping the motor in; here is his Spec V and my '92 mini-me swapped Civic DD. The hatch used to be his car, but he blew the motor and sold the shell to me, then went out and bought the Spec V.

Heres another pic I thought you guys would like....my paint/body guy is a big chevy guy. Here is his '85 El Camino which will be restored soon, his all original '70 Monte Carlo, and his '78 Type LT Camaro. They are all gorgeous.

We decided to drop the motor in with the transmission attached, but it got *stuck* going in. The picture caption is: "WTF is it stuck on?"

And finally....here she is sitting nice and snug in the engine bay. Those Prothanes are a lot thicker than the OEM mounts, so we had to grease the piss out of them to get them to slide in place. It took us 3 hours to get all the mounts in place.

And lastly....my refinished wheels sporting a set of Fuzion ZRi's.

On the car; notice how they are REALLY close to those AD22VF's....

Thats all for now....part III will come soon. I haven't been able to get the car to start yet. She cranks, gets fuel but doesn't fire. I am trying to convince these 2 clowns to come and give me a hand with the electric stuff; don't let looks decieve you. Fig and Billy made that car below pass all emissions with a built to sh*t Type-R B16, all custom and nearly stripped completely as far as sensors and such go. It runs 12's all day, and is naturally aspirated. I'll have to turbo my car before it can touch that thing....

Great progress bro. Car is coming together very nice. I'm definately going to try and make a trip up there in the near future. We are planning to head out to Lebanon raceway so if the car is done let me know and I can fill you in on when we are planning to make a date to bring all the SE-R's together. Keep up the great work!

I actually love that it adds some contrast with the red prothane insert. You can't see it in the car though....

i'm guessing you were just test fitting it, but isn't the tire rotating in the wrong direction in the last picture?

in any case, way jealous as my paint has taken a dump many years ago. nice nx brake comparison too, nothing like bling-tastic rotors!

Thanks for the kudos. The downside is, I don't think I have enough money to finish it the way I want to....Grad School is looming on the horizon, and I don't know if I will even be able to afford to store it...

His garage is pretty sweet....but thats only half in the picture. The other side is bigger, has two toolboxes full of tools, his comercial air compressor, and all of his painting stuff. All of the car parts are stored upstairs. He bought the house for the garage.
