Macs new Classic project. UPDATED 10/01/2007

Well i bought a Classic yesterday. i wanted to build a street legal racecar so i decided i had to find a car. after a couple of days of looking for a car i found a 91 G20 5spd for $900 but the guy never returned my calls. so i keep looking. then i run across a Classic. Bone stock (and i mean bone stock) 1991 nissan sentra ser. says it has 5th gear pop out but what ever its going to be a race car. i figure its got to have some bad damage or some thing. so i go up to look at it and brought it home here is what i got:

on the way home it starts to over heat so im thinking the water pump is going. but then it cools off so i figured low on coolant. and put some water in and its been fine since. the cars is in great condition. the AC even blows cold. haha

so i put it on the scales today and it came out to: 2499Lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel, spare and jack int the car. (i will be taking everthing out so keep a look out for a wieght reduction thread and a garage sale.)

after i get it off the scale i put it on the dyno to get my base line power to the wheels:
the 119 and 120hp pulls where in 4th
the 102 was in 4th with the ac on. i aways wondered what the Hp drop was with the ac on. now i know.

here is some more pictures.

i will keep this updated as i am installing an AEM intake next week and cams.

Here is the dyno with the AEM Cai installed. i used the my 119whp run as an overlay cause it doesnt have the dip the 120whp does and is more realisticly the accurate pull.

Most of you will laugh at the fact that i made almost 4whp over stock. but as you can see there is more to the gains then peak HP. and im sure that a few of you know that power band is more important then peak hp.

You can see in the graph that from 3300rpm to 5000rpms i am making more HP then on the stock pull. but from 5k rpms to 5.7k rpms i am making the same as stock. from 5.7k rpms to redline i am making much more then i was stock. in some parts around10-12whp more. also my peak hp is moved to almost 6.5krpms. about 300rpm later then stock. torque is almost not changed at all. this is a good thing and a bad thing but does not effect the feel of the car at all.

the over all feel of the car now is very smooth in the top end and feels much better. i can feel the car pull more but i am very aware that there is some mental aspect to that.

stay tuned for cams and headers later this week and suspension if i have time.

i stripped the rear of the car and lost 66lbs from that. more will be coming just need more time. sorry no pics of that.

I put Ground control coil-overs and Kyb Agx's on the car now and have installed ST sway bas front and rear.

installed an exhaust system, but i didn have time to dyno it today so ill try to do it tommorow.

installed 15" Volk TE37 with a 35mm offset.

stay tuned for cams and more stripping.

So i finally got my car on the dyno with the hks exhaust and i must say i am very impressed with the findings. much better then i expected. in this its my base, Intake Installed, and intake and exhaust installed you can see the top end gained a very good amount of power as much as 20whp over stock. cant wait to get headers and see the gains. the exhaust is to quiet so im going to be installing a test pipe. well see if any gains are produced

Finally installed the JWT S3 cams and test pipe. i was very inpressed with the gains. the torque is unbeliveable. the intake exhaust run is the last dyno i had. Now the cam run is very impressive with the amount of torque it is making. you can also see that the line is much smoother then the blue run. this is due to a new cap , rotor and wires. the parts are not new but they are nissan where my car had cheap aftermarket set on them, so they are new to the car. the s3 cams with JWT ECU run is not bad at all raising the HP and TQ all through the power band. well some would take that flash as a waste of money but the car did make more power and idles much smoother now then it did with out it. the drivablity is also better with it.

im havnig a hard time finding a header with a 2.5" outlet so that is the next part im looking for. lots of wieght reduction also ill post that up when i get the car on the scales again.

Also i painted my valve cover black and it look super good.

Ok guys heres the dyno with a ebay header and a 2.5" outlet. The Blue Run is the header installed and the Red Run is the last run i did see above for more info on that run. the headers were a great complement to the whole setup i have going right now. you can see that every part of the rpm range has a gain, not one spot does not. the peak is only 7whp which is more then i was expecting. this doesnt exactly mean if you put just a header on it will provide this kind of HP i think with the cams intake ect they are a good compliment for it all.

next is a flywheel and a ac belt delete. keep posted for those numbers.

9/12/2007

Changed my radiator today. installed a Nx2000 unit. the Nx2000 rad is a 1" thick core where as the SER is less the a 3/4". it deffinitly is a more effeciant unit. took forever for it to turn the fans on.and on my car its usally pretty quick. no more coolant leaking now. i will be installing a koyo unit with silicone hoses and a G spec WP pulley. but i need some dental done so it has to wait. untill next time

installed the 8lbs flywheel and new throw out bearing and 5th gear. i have to say the 5th gear is my favorite mod now. ill dyno it otday for you guys to see any gains with the flywheel. keep posted

dynoed it finally. only made 2whp and 2wtq at peak but like all the other mods its is through out the power band. the engine revs much smoother and faster. rev match is like breathing its super easy.

ill be installing my cat to see the loss it will give tomorrow so check back for that.

10/01/2007Update

i installed my factory cat today and looks like i lost alot of power through out. sucks but now i dont have any buzz in the exhaust.

stay tuned for S4s and a wieght update.

Hey looks good. How many miles does it have?

The AEM might cost you a few ponies with cams versus a 3" pipe.

Damn, not bad espcecially for the price. Doesn't look like a bad starter at all. I have seen ones in far worse shape go for that. Good deal!

BTW If you want to sell that Stock Intake stuff when you pull it let me know, previous owner got rid of it and I need it for my auto-x class.

Thats cool you tested with a/c on, I've always wondered that too. I figured it would be more to tell you the truth.

+1 on the A/C test.

I think the numbers were pretty respectable given the age, how many miles are on it?

milage is about 150000 the odometer started to screw up but there is an oil change sticker from a few months ago that had a good number on it.

there is about a 2-8hp difference from 3rd and 4th gear. i have spent literally hundreds of hours on the dyno with almost every kind of car and 4th has always been the best gear. almost every tranny 4th is a 1:1 gear ratio that means no gearing loss. ill show you guys when i dyno it with the intake. ill post a dyno run i did with a stock civic and did a every gear run.

I always heard dyno pulls were done by gear ratio not the motor type, always the gear closest to 1:1

exactly other wise you should make max hp in all gears. but you dont.
