so here are the first pictures of what i hope will be alot. I bought this car about a year ago with the last 1000 bux i had.(cars run a little more expensive down here.) it had 191k miles on it, and i had planned to eventually get an engine swap. i later found out that this is what the inside REALLY looked like. i have kept oil changes sacred, but i guess the lady who owned it before me didnt
a few weekends ago i started hearing some bad knoking, this is the result..
here is the engine i plan on getting..its all i have the money for getting payed 4.25/hr(no im not a slave...but almost)
its not an sr, but its still jdm, LOW MILES!! hehe
any ideas on what direction i should take with the new ga16?
i want good power, for as little money possible, i was planning on a manifold and 3" exaust to start. ive been liking the side exit setup. then move on to some boost? any ideas or pointes would be greatly apreciated.
Most will tell you that if you want performance, then go the SR20 route.
I have a GA16DE with a header, short ram intake and a Magnaflow muffler. Anything else that could be changed starts costing alot. Also lack of funds usually
means you will have to live with a lack of horsepower.
If you modify your suspension with good parts and get some good rubber you will
find your car more fun to drive even without added power.
keep it stock, Ga16 is enough. I have this engine on my daily driving car and it maintains steady 100 m/h on a highway with 3/4 of gas pedal. If you don't do drug racing, don't ask for anything else from this engine. On real roads when you have 70+ hp cars, power advantage becomes significantly less important than one's driving skills. You my not believe it, but I when I race with a 300+ hp bimmer or a Mustang on a real highway, they can't pass me even though my engine is significantly smaller.

a new manifold will be nice but a 3" exhaust will be too big most likely. 3" is good for turbo but get an sr20 rather than spending the money on boost, unless you can put together the turbo kit for less than the sr20 engine. i would bet that boosted GA16 engines live much shorter lives than N/A sr20 and with an engine that lives longer comes the chance to save up and get more parts.
other mods for the GA16 to think about are light weight pulleys and flywheel, ecu upgrade, cold air intake. JTM has a good point too, a nice suspension is worth more than a little extra horse power. also don't forget your brakes as you build power.

based on your previous posts...i'm gonna go ahead and raise the flag
you can do almost everything to your ga16 that you could to a sr20. it all depends on exactly what your goals are. i just wanted something with a little more pep and that looked good under the hood. i had a hotshot header, hotshot intake, jwt cams, 2 1/4" exhaust, and a catco convertor. for the money i sunk into all of that, i could have bought a bluebird engine. i ended up pulling the ga and starting a sr swap/turbo build.

Another newb that thinks there ga16de motor is god.
Dont waste your time hooking up the GA, believe me I know first hand . I/H/E will give it some pep and make it a little more fun to drive. However, it wont give you that "good power, for as little money" you are looking for. keep it stock and save money for the real POWA!

im not going to get into the whole sr ga argument.. yes theres GA's out there that can spank sr's but they put alot alot of money in them.. second a sr swap will cost you alot and i know because i have done this.. you have to get a new harness ecu motor mounts and brakets 5 speed crossmember(if your ga isint 5 speed already) engine and tranny then axles bunch of headaces and time...
and then when your all done it wont start with the key and you have to rewire some things lol....
if you dont have time to do this then i suggest you stick with the GA and save up for a car already SR20 powerd
my 2 cents

What I said, only people who can't drive think that power is everything. I was racing whole week with my friends all the way from Chicago to Alaska (50000 mi) with 4.0 Mustang and 98 Maxima, as well as other cars who saw us speeding... Of course they could pass me on open roads but nobody was able to get away with constant maneuvering in the real traffic.
I thought it was a Mustang 5.0 not 4.0, unless you mean it was a newer V6? I'll laugh later. A 98 Maxima, I know first hand that it'll STOMP a stock GA, hands down. Those Maxi's aren't a game. And yea,

I'd have to agree with that statement. LAST, Where the hell in Alaska were you that it was 50,000 miles? I can SMELL the bullsh*t.

I know there are a few fast ga16's...but not stock ones, lol, let's leave that there, i don't want that arguement.
So you are racing in REAL traffic. Are you F'ing dumb. How many lives did you put in danger on your chi to alaska road trip? You should probably just move to ak, I don't want you anywhere near me
ride on you guys rock. i know ive spanked quite a few ricers from around here with my knoking ga, but i guess i was just wondering what kind of minor mods i could add. thanks alot for the help. as for beating 300hp bimmers and stangs.....i highly doubt that, but thanks for the motivational speech
you guys have been a huge help... any pics of ** ga's? id like to see them.
