I'll eventually get a power-telescoping antenna, but in the meantime:
There's an inline amplifier I'm still trying to decide where to tap power from, but reception of local radio stations seems unimpaired. Hey, it was nine bucks.

thats awesome, man. whered you get it? I have the factory antenna from a Focus ZX3 on mine right now, which looks good, but it leans over at about 45* when I go over 60

I got it at Meijer. It was the last one, I don't know if you can get them elsewhere, but it was a gin-u-wine Rally part. It has an inline amplifier, any thoughts on where to tap power for it?
Serban, how'd the window-stick antenna work, as far as installation and reception? I've been thinking about that possibility as well.
The real trouble is how to get the power wire from inside the fender into the interior. I can't get it through the hole where the antenna wire goes, but I haven't looked closely to see if there's a rubber washer there I could pop.
Which wires are the "switched and constant leads going into the headunit?" There's only one wire on the amplifier, the directions say to hook it to 12V power. They even provided the scotchlock connector
well. depending on the current draw of the signal amplifier, it may be best to use a relay... if you were to wire it to the constant power wire(yellow if you have an aftermarket wiring harness adapter for your HU) it would always be on, and it would be possible for the battery to be drained if left on for a long time. on the other hand, I doubt that the current draw would be too much for the switched 12v circut(the red wire on the HU harness).... i would just try that, run a wire through the closest hole you can find in the firewall(theyre all over the place) to the 12v spot on the amplifier and the other end to the red wire on your HU harness, that should do it.
Why not use a relay and use the power antenna lead from the head unit to trigger it? That way the amp is only on when the you're using the radio.
That antenna looks awesome. It's definitely going on my "to do" list. I just got my classic, and immediately the antenna was the only thing I wanted to change cosmetically.
I don't know where to get a relay or how to wire it. ALL of my electrical expertise has to do with house wiring type stuff; I have no experience with low-voltage systems. Any suggestions?
thats phat! i might just go buy one for the hell of it...its only 9 bucks
