93 SE-R "The Daily Re-Up"

THE RE-UP HAS BEGUN!

NOTE: Before they attempted to do the install on my exhaust kit (Everything was brand new UN-USED)

1.) Get Exhaust done.............. Full 2.5 VRS/SS Kit with ApexiWS2 - Completed 5/10/08 Post#7 and #14
2.) Headlight Restoration..........Defogger Kit - Completed 5/31/08 Post #16

So I finally decide to get my exhaust kit put on that has been sitting in my room for over a year and I take it to Maxi Muffler on ringgold road. This has gotten me off to a SLOooooooW start, but it should be fixed soon. I drop my car off at 12:30PM this past SAT and the guy tells me it will be about an hour or two before they can get it done. He says that it will be about 140 for the job. This is my FIRST time I've had my full exhaust done, so I was like ok. (I should have looked around a little more, but they were 60 seconds from my APT.)

I'm thinking to myself, that price was off by 50 dollars or so because the pipe kit was already PRE-BENT for my car and they used the flanges from my old test pipe and resonator. Anyway the guy at the front desk said that he would call me when it was done. I was like cool, so I'm looking at my watch a little later and I'm like dang, it's going on 4 HOURS since I dropped my car off, let me go see what's going on???????

I get there and it is sitting in the back and the guy didn't even give me a call. (No biggie, it's SAT and he may have gotten a little busy) FIRST thing I do is crank the car and get under there to feel and listen for leaks. NO NEED,..... I look at the back part of my CAT and it is sleeved into the front part of my RESO.(No biggie, everybody makes mistakes sometimes and it is fixable) So I called the front desk guy over to my car and show him the problem. He was like, "O yeah, I see what you talking bout, we will weld it all up for you." Me thinking fast, I was like......."Make sure you use flanges so that I can replace the CAT if need be". He was like ok we can do that for you.

Moving right along,...........This ends up taking another 35 to 45 mintues to fix. By this time it is close to 5PM and again I dropped my car off at 12:30PM! They finally finish it up ( AS IT SEEMED THAT WAY) and I look under the car one more time and saw the (2) flanges and I was like, cool it's done. I hop in my car and take it right to the interstate to see how the welds were going to hold up. I BEAT my car pretty hard that day and wasted a lot of gas. AND THEN...........

I am driving my car and noticed after about (2) days of driving, the pitch has changed. By this time I am like, WTF is it now? I get under my car and sure if enough I SEE the problem. The back part of the RESO were it's ACTUAL SUPPOSE to be weld to the exhaust piping was sleeved! I'm like you got to be kidding me! I over looked this at the shop from the FIRST problem I had with the (2) flanges being missing. I will be going back this coming saturday morning to waste some more of my time. I'm not trying to say that this is a bad shop, but they DROPPED the ball on me BIG TIME! Especially with this being one of the RARE FULL off days I get. MAKE SURE YOU ALL LOOK OVER THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE! I'm glad I caught this early so I can have it fixed.

Right before I left the shop I asked the guy if I had anymore leaks could I bring it back, and he was like yes, we will fix you right up. Well, I will be going for ROUND #3 and I hope this one does the JOB. I will try and post up PICS and a VID clip of my claims later today. Another than that, the Re-Up has begun!

REESE

^Yes, it is a ApexiWS2 with a full 2.5" VRS/SS pipe kit. I purchase the 2.5" magnaflow cat and reso to keep it quite. I think it should sound pretty good once I get all the leaks fixed. Looks like crap! My first post explains it all

Sometimes you get such a-holes at muffler shops. I remember having a fight with a guy who kept telling me 2.5" was "way too much pipe for your little 4-knocker".

Car is looking good now man

^I stated that about the tip. It will be fixed. Not worried about anybody calling me rice. I'd like for them to say it to my face. That is the least of my worries. I just want the Re-Up to go smooth as possible after my exhaust problem I had. I see you looked me up after I found that sig. I wasn't trying to throw a shot at you. I'll edit the post in your thread if you would like me to kid.

UPDATE:

Exhaust leaks were finally fixed after I had to go to another Maxi Muffler across town to explain what the other shop could not fix. The guy was amazed with all the problems I was having. I told him where I thought the problem was and how they tried to keep all of my stuff that came with the kit. (hangers/flanges/clamps) The guy ended up fixing me up for free

^Here is what was left from the kit after I went back to the bad shop for the 3rd time minus one of the kit flanges I had put on at the shop across town to fix the leak by the cat. For some reason they used there old stuff and not my new stuff I'm thinking that the hanger on the FAR RIGHT did not come with my stuff. Can somebody else that bought the VRS kit let me know.

^The clamp on the left is what they put on there and my kit came with the one on the right I believe. This was MY MISTAKE for not looking over everything that was in the plastic wrap and taking pics. Can somebody tell me how many clamps/hangers/flanges can in the kit?

^A better pic of what I believe is their clamp vs my clamp

^The same thing went for the hangers as well. I will eventually get the rusty looking shop hangers they used replaced with the shiney ones I have. I still can't figure out why they used there stuff.

I had a VID clip, but I'm going to re-do it because there was a plane flying over when I made it. I'm still gonna have to have my muffler moved up about 4 more inches, but the leaks were my main concern.

93-94 Headlight Restoration Project

The Daily "Re-Up" 93-94 Headlight Restoration - HOW TO PROJECT

Who says that the yellow/rusty HEADLIGHTS are un-repairable?

^Everything that came in the kit

^STEP #1 - This is the package that I bought from Advance Auto Parts that cost about $19 dollars. Read the directions first before you start or you can use this post as a guide, which I think will be helpful

^STEP #2 - First you want to get a bottle of some kind and fill it up with water to save yourself a headache. (THE BOTTLE DOES NOT COME WITH THE KIT) Then I would recommend getting a pair of scissors, a roll of paper towels, and a old bath towel to lay on the front bumper right in front of the headlight. This will prevent you from having to constantly stop and clean up the mess once you start the job. The yellow/rust will be running down the lights and the front bumper while you are doing this. This is why I recommend using a towel. You can now get the BROWN sand paper to get ready to use. The kit also comes with one glove that you can use to prevent skin irritation from the products.

First thing you want to do is get the headlight wet. (YOU CAN SPRAY AS MUCH WATER AS YOU WANT, BUT JUST BE SURE YOU SPRAY IT GOOD) Now you will start the sanding process. As you are sanding the headlight, continue to spray with the water bottle and DON NOT let the light get dry while you are sanding. The paper tells you to do the step for about 3 to 5 minutes, but I did it for 10 minutes! Just make sure that you cover the headlight for the best results. After you have completed the sanding, take a piece of paper towel to wipe the headlight dry. Each step that I did, I went BACK AND FORWARD from one headlight to the other. I would recommend doing this to cut down on the time of the project and for a trick I found out towards the end of this that could be helpful.

^STEP #3 - Now you will need to get the BLUE sand paper that has less grit than the BROWN one you used in STEP #2. You will basically be do the same thing that you did in STEP #2. Again, continue to constantly spray with the water bottle for the best results. I believe the instructions say that you can do this for 1 minute or so, but I did it for 10 minutes! I think you could get away with a strong 5 minutes worth of sanding, should do the job. After you have wiped the headlight with a paper towel clean of everything, you are now ready for STEP #4.

^CV#1

^ORANGE cloth with CV#1

^STEP #4 - Now you need to get one of the CV#1 packets along with one of the ORANGE looking cloths for this step. The CV#1 packet has this rip slit on the side of it, but I thought it would be best to use a pair of scissors and cut the near the edge so that the stuff doesn't run out to fast. You want to have the ORANGE cloth folded into a square.

The instructions say to put a small pea drop of the stuff on the cloth, but you will use all of it. The kit comes with (2) CV#1 packs, so you get (1) per headlight. Again, if you are not going BACK AND FOWARD between the headlights I would start now to get the best results on the trick I found out for the last step. When you are applying the product, you can do it in a circular motion, or go from side to side. I think I did little bit of both because my arm was getting tired . Continue to buff until the headlight until the product is gone. After that is finished, you want to wipe down the headlight with a paper towel until it is CLEAN of everything.

THE FINAL AND MOST IMPORTANT STEP

^STEP #5 - Now it's time to share the trick I found out with the final step. First things first, get the scissors out and get (1) of the CV#2 packets along with (1) of the ORANGE cloths. Now would be a GOOD TIME to double check and make sure that the headlight is COMPLETELY dry before we move on.

Ok, notice how the kit comes with (4) CV#2 packets and (4) ORANGE cloths. They did this so that you will be able use (2) packets per headlight with a 3 to 5 minute wait time between each coat. I found that you can squeeze out both headlights from (1) packet if you do this swiftly. This will give you (4) coats per headlight instead of (2). Now you can use the scissors to cut the CV#2 packet near the edge. (IT'S A LITTLE RUNNY SO POUR CAREFULLY) Fold the ORANGE cloth into a square and evenly let the product pour onto the cloth.

The paper says that it dries in about 20 seconds, so you want to do this quickly starting from the top left corner of the headlight and go from one side to the other in one motion. Do this from the top, middle, and bottom part of the headlight for the best results. You can go over the light about (3) times with the top, middle, and bottom motion and still have time do the other headlight using the same cloth without having to use more CV#2 just yet. By doing this you will be able to get (4) coats per headlight out of the packets to help the yellow/rust say way as long as possible. The more coats the better "I SAY".

This was my first time doing this and I figured I would share my results with the board. I was going to order another TSURU headlight kit and dump the OG headlights, but I have changed my mind for now. How long will the lights stay clear , only time will tell. I will just have to report back and post my results. I actually had took all the pics after the job was complete because I didn't have the D-CAM at that time. Special thanks to me friend Andrea for taking all the *PICS* and for bringing a hungry man something to eat .

Check out the BEFORE and AFTER below

^AFTER
