Scenic drive near Chicago?

Help help,

Commuting around Chicago is getting me down. I need a place to go drive on the weekend. I'm looking for some nice rural roads, where I can cruise along without red lights... maybe do some recreational downshifting and such.

Anybody have suggestions of places within a reasonable drive of Chi-town? I'm from the East Coast, don't know the area too well, and I'm used to heading into the mountains when I need a driving escape. Can't do that here.

Well, thanks in advance!

Evo,

There's not much here in Chicago unless you go out to the suburbs ( citys out skirt of Chicago). You'd better off going to Indiana (30 minutes away) where there's plenty of open road for miles and miles. Also there isn't much cops like Chicago has especially the suburbs (their really anal).

Indiana

Yeah, Indiana has lots of open road... However I got chased by cops there on my way back from Mazda Rev it up. I had a ticket for going 21 over on the way to chicago (in michigan) and on the way home i was merging on what i thought was a US highway. I was mistaken and its speed limit was 55. I was going like 76 when i saw the cop, he turned his lights on and tried to turn around but there was to much traffic so i got away...

*whew*
