I would strongly recommend that you use a proper VE ECU (like Calum or JWT) for engine management. This would allow you to optimize timing as well as mixture. The DE program bin file is not a good fit, even with SAFC.
The next thing to change would be the MAF -- if you are going to change the ECU you might as well go ahead and upgrade to the N60 or equivalent.
I've been running a DE MAF on my VE for years and it works fine, but I'm left wondering if there is a little gain left on the table due to flow constrictions.

I agree with you, JWT or Calum FTW. Now in the case of the MAF it is much better the VE MAF, in the case of the DE the internal diameter is 2.5in, in the case of the VE is 3in straight.
A friend upgraded the MAF (and he was running a DE ECU with SAFC2) and he gained like 3 whp.
It was on like 173 whp, then he installed the Calum ecu basic with the basic tune and it was on 178whp. Finally he tunned the ECU, upgraded to Sr16 camshafts and ported the head and it was hitting 194 whp last time I saw it on the dyno.

Sentra SE-R 1991 - Sr20ve. SOLD
Next project: Who knows, another VVL or EJ20G maybe, but is going to take such a long time
Toyota Van: Daily driving (so I dont have to walk )
Hey uhm I wanted to swap a sr20ve into my sentra 97..The swap includes everything and 6 speed auto tranny. Also has the gauge and tiptronic sh*ter from a 98 primera. Was wondering is there any way i can change the redline on the auto? or is that impossible?
Well it is not impossible but to be honest it may be difficult. On VE's almost no one works the stock ECU. you could look for a rev limiter removal, which is some sort of piggy back and will allow you to trick the ECU and let it rev higher, but honestly I have seen that for Honda ECUs not Nissan.
Now what you could do is the following (kinda complicated though): Engine ECU and Tranny ECU are separate. You could buy an B13 SE-R ECU ODB1 (VE is OBD1 too) and get a calum basic chip, with that you can raise the rev limiter and get a good tune on top of that. However I dont know how the gearbox ECU will react to those changes since I imagine the tranny ECU takes in count the revs as a parameter to do the shifting
Sr20VE stock ECU cuts @7100k, I think only the SR16VE cuts at 8200 or so, and the N1 @8500, something like that, but the SR20 im sure cause I had it on my car
DID YOU FIND WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR?I HAVE A 94 4 DOOR WITH A VE IN IT FRESHLY INSTALLED..LET ME KNOW IF YOU STILL NEED HELP..PM ME IF YOU LIKE..IAM GOING TO DO A THRED ON HOW TO SWAMP A GA16DE TO A SR20VE.SOON IAM TYOPING AS WE SPEAK..IAM PREATY MUCH 1 OF THE FIRST TO DO IT ON A 4 DOOR AND TRUST ME ITS A PULLING SLEEPER..

it's a straight swap, you don't need to modify your DE tranny bracket. If you're having issues, have you looked at your motor mounts and clutch alignment?

you'll need something to switch your cams...like a GReddy MSS or MSD. An upgraded clutch wouldn't be a bad idea either.
