I was thinking "gitr?", couldnt remember one on the cruise, then looked at the pics again. Its a N14 GTI with a BB det engine and big front mount. Give away is the radio aerial is on the side pillar, gtir has it on the rear roof, just in front of the rear hatch. But yeh, I can see how you would see it that way. There are quite a number of this type of converison in nz, and they are often faster on the 1/4, being lighter and less drive train loss.

Also their har no wheel arch guards like the Gtir and SSS
