I'll have to look into that exhaust idea. The snow storm did suck. I ran out of propane last night and with the snow storm that came the hardware store never opened so I couldn't refill the tank. No work accomplished today since I had no heat.

Finished welding the steering rack brackets today.

Sprayed the entire sub frame with 3M Rubberized Undercoating.

I also cleaned up more of the engine bay so I can spray it tomorrow. Will probably spray the bottom half silver that way its easier to see if any fluids are leaking.

One of my brothers gave me a box of these Camel Grinding Wheels for on a grinder. They work awesome and cut down the time of cleaning the engine bay by a lot compared to using a sander.

Taped everything up to get ready for painting.

I always use Prep All for wiping down the surface before painting. Make sure you use materials for wiping that won't leave behind a lot of particles. After wiping everything down you should also use a tack cloth to make sure the surface is free of any particles left behind.

Primer

I painted it white since I only had one can of silver laying around and 4 cans of white. Clear coat is also already applied in below picture.

Bolted my suspension back on but I ended up busted a bolt. Tomorrow I will have to drill it out and weld a new one in place.

Control arms and hubs are bolted back on.

Now since my car was lowered it ended up correcting itself making the tie rods fit perfect. The control arm is raised up to ride height in picture.

My turning ability is a bit off from one way to the next so I will have to correct that tomorrow.

Finished spraying the bare metal I had in the engine bay. Its a darker red then what was originally painted in the engine bay.

Welded in a new bolt today for my kyb strut.

I also took care of my steering issue so it turns the same amount both ways.

Here are some of the new parts I ordered.

Dual 11" fans

Cometic Head Gasket

Oem water pump

Koyo Radiator paid $301 shipped. It has the smaller inlets but a local radiator shop gave me some adapters so my radiator hoses would fit.

Autobahn Silicone Radiator Hoses

I also ordered a Spec stage 2+ clutch which should be here next week as well as some arp head studs.

Installed the water pump today

Moved my power steering lines so they wouldn't interfere with the rear engine mount.

Also took the transmission off so I can bring the flywheel to get resurfaced tomorrow.

Stock clutch

Here is the condition the clutch and flywheel was in.

Pressure plate

My air compressor wasn't able to get the flywheel bolts loose so I had to chain the flywheel up to keep it from turning. Then I was able to crank on it with a breaker bar.

I'm sure the previous owner had some fun seeing that there is a lot of heat marks in the flywheel.

ARP head studs arrived today

I dropped off my flywheel today and picked it back up 40 minutes later.

Here are my rear end parts I purchased a year ago.

I moved the car forward so I had more room when working on the back and started the tear down.

Fuel tank, exhaust, hubs are removed.

As you can see in the picture a NX doesn’t exactly have a rear sub frame. It has extra braces and such which are just welded to the body/frame rail.

In order for the Gti-r sub frame to even get close to the correct spot you will need to cut off the NX brackets shown in the above picture.

I laid down a welding blanket first to help keep sparks from flying all over everything.

My fuel tank will be going behind the sub frame underneath so I cut out the spare tire compartment as well. You will also need to unbolt the sway bar brackets, the rear heat shields and cut off any brackets left from your old rear setup so the frame rail is flat.

Here is the Gti-r sub frame some what lifted into position.

I need to buy some boxed tubing tomorrow so I can widen my frame rails in order to make mounting points.

The NX suspension bolts right up the Gti-r rear hubs. The brake lines also use the same line to caliper fitting but needs to be rerouted to the other side of the strut. Technically now if some one wanted to upgrade there rear brakes you could just swap Gti-r rear hubs and bolt everything right in.

For the rear sway bar you will need to move the Gti-r sway bar brackets apart abut 2"s more in order to use a NX/Sentra sway bar. Otherwise use a Gti-r sway bar and modify the end links to mount to your suspension.

Now I won't be able to really tell where the sub frame will mount to until after I get my engine/transmission installed to make sure the drive shaft is straight. My clutch comes in Tuesday so hopefully Wednesday I can drop the engine back in to finish the rear mock up.

My main brake line that runs from the front to the back and splits to both sides was completely rusted. I'm lucky it didn't brake while driving the car. Anyways it broke on me when disconnecting it so I'm going to look into getting a braided brake line made to replace the entire piece. I also ordered up braided lines for each caliper yesterday.

paid around $400 shipped for the complete sub frame last summer from JHOT on ebay. The spare diff, hubs, axles etc... shown on the skid I think I paid $300 shipped from someone else on ebay.

Not much for updates today. I picked up 2 3ft chunks of boxed steel which is more then enough needed for the frame rails.
4" by 2" and 1/8 thick

Cleaned up the transmission, looks a lot better now.

I'm going to be talking to some guys at a hot rod shop tomorrow about fuel cells but this is the design I will more then likely go with. I would prefer a 8 or 10 gallon but I would probably have to get one specially made to fit where I want it.
RCI 12 gallon fuel cell
Tig-Welded 5051 Aircraft Aluminum
12 Bolt 1.75 “ Fill Neck With Cap or can use as Remote Fill
# 8 AN Male Fuel Pickup
# 8 AN Male Fuel Return
# 8 AN Male Rollover Vent
Fuel Sending Unit (for use of 0 to 90 ohm Gauge)
No Foam
18.0 “ Length, 12.0 “ Width, 12.0 “ Height

I will be mounting the fuel cell under the car so in order to keep the fuel lines up as far as possible I’m going with a in tank fuel pump. www.tanksinc.com sells a nice kit for $225. All you do is drill your hole and bolt it to the tank. Comes with gasket, fuel pump and everything else needed. They also have a couple different size fuel pumps available depending on how much fuel you need.

I have a hole in the back of my car and it would take the same amount of time to put the old setup back in as it would to do the gti-r sub frame. So i'm kinda commited to finish it now. Besides how many do you know that actually have gone this far on the conversion so far.
