youre gonna have to show me a pic cause as far as I know nothing supports the bumper. The bumper bolts right into the frame, so there is no "support" so to speak. I know it is covered by a facia and there is a spoiler underneath, commnoly called the lip. If thats what you refer to as the support...it doesnt support anything and commonly cracks.
OHH my I have my credit card in hand , ....I am at school in NC. right now , but I would love to have one of these

As for the bumper support/crash structure it's not that heavy, but if you wanted a lighter one it would be cheaper and easier to have a tube made out of Chromoly to replace it.

Interested for sure. Of course there are variables, such as if my engine doesn't blow up. Dont' mind paying a reasonable price for something that will give significant weight savings.
Roughly how many pounds will this save? Will the hatch struts still be usuable?
I'm guessing the stock hatch weights >60lbs. My hatch struts seems useless right now, maybe with the lighter hatch, it can do its job!
Oh yeah, hope shipping to Canada is doable.
glad to see this moving forward . You didn't by chance go with the company I gave you info on? It's been so long that I forgot the company lol...will the hatch support glass, just curious. Time to save my bread

The hatch struts will obviously work better and last longer with this piece. They may even be too strong LOL, but I doubt it.
I dont want to guess any numbers without knowing for sure. I dont like when people give me guesses, so I rather provide accurate data when I know it. But just in the glass alone there will be ample savings...

I dont think it would be that good of an idea to put glass on the CF part. Not only would it defeat the purpose, but I imagine after one or 2 hard shuts, it may stress fracture the material. The part will be made with lexan, otherwise the weight savings wont be as great.
I agree the glass is most likely the heavy part of the hatch. I am not sure of weight, but i know on honda crx's its damn heavy as well, and their hatches ar almost completely glass, ours have more metal on them.

EDIT: My mistake. The glass is not 44lbs LOL That number was stuck in my head from the hood GB. The OEM hood weighs 44 lbs IIRC. A forum member has told me the glass weighs around 20-something pounds and is possibly going to get an exact number for me, which would be great!
We decided to smooth and cover the wiper arm hole since it will be useless and probably more harm than good for the polycarbonate window piece.
The 4 spoiler holes will have 4 small dimples at their location so running the spoiler will be optional.
The window will consist of a polycarbonate material similar to those sold by Percy's etc etc and will be machined to fit our hatches. A brand new OEM Nissan weather stripping will be included. The idea is for the window to come installed for street use as it would from the factory. Some racing entities require extra brackets and fasteners all around the window to prevent it from popping out onto the track (in the event of an impact or extreme distortion, the polycarbonate will not shatter and will just flex and pop out of place and sail off LOL). This will be up to you to conform to whichever authority you race under. If its for street use it will be fine, most drag strips dont care or look either.
with the given time frames this should be ready in 2-3 months instead of 1yr and a half like VIS LOL Im waiting for the estimate before I release exact prices, but let me tell you these guys are very affordable compared to VIS. The first production run will be for 15 units. 1 which will be mine, LOL so there will be 14 available for purchase.
thanks for the update, i'm game as soon as they figure out a price and get back to you so I know how much to save. I will even do a early down payment if that helps insure that I get one.

sounds good man. hit up some of the other wisconsin guys. Im sure shipping will be cheaper that way.
consider it done! You know if that other guy, Nelson, I think his name was, still has an NX? see if he is interested and if any other guys semi-local or local to you are, hit them up too.
The sooner I sell the first batch the sooner, i can make more or make more products. These guys seem real confident they can make anything, t-tops, hoods, whatever I give them. Theyve made alot of stuff for the Eclipse crowd...hatches, hoods, bumpers, fenders, even full doors!! They say alot of the guys that go to them are drag racers and their times improve from shaving off all the weight. They have processes to make stuff very very light, but for race only applications, of course. I got a very good feeling in dealing with these guys. Very friendly and knowledgeable unlike VIS LOL
Unfortunately, I no longer have my NX but I will pass the word on to the new owner in case he's interested. He is a member on both forums but doesn't post at all. If I had my NX, I would have DEFINITELY been down for this bad boy. This is going to be one of those things that if you miss out, you miss out for good like so many other great opportunities.
damn...i better start saving up all my pocket change now. shipping to hawaii is absolutely gonna kill me. still, really wanna be involved in this one since i missed the hood deal.
keep us updated!
