Gear Box strengthening (GTIROC)

I have been concerned with the strength of the R gearbox. When on gtiroc i stumbled on this . Now it make total sense run stock mounts on gearbox side and solid on the rest. Ok now i have to see if i can get some new stock mounts.

the mounts aren't the cause of the problem, its the simple fact that the casings are sh*te (there are 3 different types, but only slight differences in them). Its simply the cut on the gears transferring the load down the shafts and into the bearing seats, which are painfully thin.

This problem happens on lots of cars, not just gtirs.

the brace si came up with helped out no end but the first case ended up cracking under the main bearing seat at the bellhousing end. Second case got cryo treated and held up fine with the brace, his new box has straight cut gears so shouldn't have any of the same issues.

I know the mounts arent the problem but i have been planning to put solid mounts in . So instead of doing them all im just going to leave the gearbox ones"stock". But i do want to replace with new stock units.

Yah i regret throwing out the extra trannys from the motors i sold. But my yard was looking like an episode from Sanford and Son series. Easier put junk yard.

I think you are better off with solid mounts. Think about it this way: with soft mounts the tranny will "walk" or move which = momentum. Once the tranny hits the end of the mount not only will it stop the tranny from moving but it will also yank it in the opposite direction. Similar to wheel hop destroying a front wheel drive sr20 tranny.
just my 2 cents.

I have the option of the doing the others. Its still better than all old stock mounts regardless of the combo.
