fixing the fauilty main pulley(pics)

ok so i was rallying in -34 and i cracked my c/s pulley and no one gave me any info on how to fix it.
your going to need a 1 and1/16 socket and a really big wrench a socket set and a hammer

The main pulley is located just on the other side of the drivers side wheel so take it off. there is a small plastic guard over the engine area with 5 philips screws(on is under the car). once that is off i guess you should loosen the tensioners.

one is under the bundle of wires at the end off the v/c. it is part of the alternator. you have to undo the side bolt before it will move. this tensioner you want to drop down. the radiator fluid reservoir bracket is going to need to be removed. the second tensioner is harder to get at. it is located on what looks to be the power steering pump. same deal as the other one but this tensioner gets moved in the opposite direction. its packed in there!

when the tensioners are loose you should remove the belts. if your situation is like mine your smaller belt will be melted in between one side of the broken pulley and the engine block.

and whats left of the belt

anyways grab the socket and remove the large bolt holding the pulley on. this will be easiest with someone on the breaks and the car in 5th and the ebrake on. when the bolt is off there is a key cut in the pulley and is should come off with some prying with the hammer or what have you. the new pulley should just slide on.
i got mine from g spec performance and its nice

do the bolt back up and put on new belts also from G spec and it should be good. if the belts squeal you need to tighten the tensioners until they no longer do so.

keep in mind if you get a smaller pulley that you will need smaller belts.

So what cause it to come off and wrap around the pulley? Was the alt or the a/c compressor bad or was the tension just looses enough for it to jump?

the rubber spacer that separates the belt portion of the pulley from the main pulley body froze and the lose piece with the belts still on it was still spinning and slid against the engine. i went well over 3000km like this before my smaller belt was completely melted and i had no power steering. you can even see in the pics how cold it was in my garage, let alone outside it was -34.
