calumsult program freezes

when i start my car to get readings from the gauge cluster on the laptop, the program freezes. before turning the key all is operational. it reads temp, tps, everything. as soon as i turn the key, the program freezes. what gives. i need to set an A/F tune somewhat to be okay in my head before i get to a dyno to tune. i dont have a wideband and the calumsult program is all i have to use. calum: you need a support network! you are impossible to reach!!! i call, email, nothing. your too busy! lol

Just to clarify, are you using a RT or a consult adapter? If you use ConZult freeware does it do the same thing? When it freezes, what is the debug tab doing?

the debug tab does not seem to be doing anything. i loaded the conzult program and that is not "seeing" the ecu at all. i open it through com5 as i would the calumsult program, but i get nothing at all in conzult... running or not. that kinda sux too as i am liking the options in conzult. the calumsult program was working at one point today, but when i shut my car off and came back to head home, it froze again. i try closing the program and resetting it, also rebooting my laptop. neither method helps.

Sounds like a PC problem to me.

Uninstall all the programs. Reboot. And walk though the getting started guide Calum posted. Everytime ive seen the consult side not working its been a Winders problem.

And you are close to Erick in CT....he is probably the best real time tuners out there id definatly be getting with him if i were you

Is there a usb cable coming out of the back of your ECU?

ConZult freeware is my gold standard to see if the consult connection is working. If it doesn't work either you don't have a bin uploaded correctly or there is a problem with the consult circuit.

well then i would suspect the circuit. either that or the program itself. the bin seems to be functioning properly. i can make adjustments in tunerpro.

What com port do you have the consult channel set to?

Do this- With the car running fire up CalumSult, select the right com channel, then hit the connect button. What happens? If nothing, flip to the debug tab and tell me what its doing.

If you change the rev limit to 3k, does it actually change?

i am on com 5. i will try what you say and respond. i have played with the rev limit already and it does work. i am able to adjust it and see it limit the rev using tunerPro.

Cool, if you can change the rev limit and it does change than your program is uploaded correctly. Now just to troubleshoot the consult side.

when the consult side is working properly, the "ecu response" box in the debug tab is going nuts reading things, the "write count" tab stops at a number in the hundreds. when it is not working, nothing is happening in the ecu resonse box. the write count tab number just keeps climbing though. i am beggining to think i have a bad connection. but adjustments will still function in tunerpro......????

calum: also, my motor WILL NOT idle while it is cold and warming up. the motor WILL NOT idle untill temp is at operating temp after physically holding the throttle open...about half gauge. it idles after that fine. i have tried setting idle with proper procedures as if i were timing it and adjusting the idle screw....no response. i also tried adjusting idle in tunerpro, same result. in searching for alternative adjustment options, i am wondering if this could be it....*BTDC in all temp options in 0C20-cold start stationary main, and 0c30-cold start stationary secondary are all set to 0. is that correct? would that effect my cold idle? do you have, or can direct me to where i can read up on all the tunerpro adjustment options functions? like: "something about tps?" what is that all about? thanx
