Has anyone looked into developing a "scab plate" on the side impact structure of the roll cage? Basically a designed plate that extends into the door structure as the primary load bearing point. You could structure it in a collapsable honey comb or padded material which could help more evenly stress the internal cage members and possibly absorb impact loads.
It came to me at work. We will scab trusses to reinforce them and distribute loads to bearing points more efficiently. Figured why couldn't you use this in a cage construction.
I would think it could be done cheaply, and would help to absorb light contact and prevent costly cage repair.
If you want/need a diagram I could fab one up.
