Although the Honda driver, Paul Pate, that I wiped out in that race might disagree

I have been catching up on events by reading the forum and noticed you wrote this. I was just thinking that Paul must be getting quite a complex about Sentra's.

Re: Am I coming back?

Yes. I hope Kinloch Racing (Phil, Matt) will return to run in the SE-R Cup.

One reason I plan to return is to add substance to this Bullsh*t - To my knowledge I have never made contact with Mike. However, I understand the new side sport appears to be bonus points for "hitting Mike" and I will not be denied my chance to score points in this new racing category - Perhaps it's because of what he writes!

Actually as far as I can recall the only Sentra I ever hit was Tim (Buttonwillow @ Off Ramp). A review of who has hit me produces much larger list. Perhaps because I accept such things as inevitable and don't make a fuss people forget!

Unfortunately, Honda contact is a different subject. I have indeed touched a few Honda's. I have even been known to express my displeasure at being held up by out-of-class obstruction by presenting Honda drivers with scary choices (yield, make contact or visit the scenery). Some Honda drivers have been stupid enough to suggest that they were hit deliberately to prove my point, however examination of video usually shows the truth.

Excluding Paul Pate who I found in dust cloud (see video in previous post) the only person driving a Honda I really "hit" was Ryan (twice)! I once hit Ryan at Buttonwillow in turn one (spun him around) and then again at the very next event at Willow Springs where I hit him (hard) squarely in the rear when the green was dropped!

The reputation that Mike has keyed off is probably associated with my occasional "very outspoken" criticism of dangerous grid organisation. Placing faster Sentra's behind a field of rookie H4 drivers will yield unpleasant results. I advocate placing the Sentra's behind the Super Unlimited class.

Anyway, here is some background.
2002, 2003 - Employed.
2004, 2005, 2006 - Unemployed.

2002, 2003, 2004 - racing funded.
2005 - operating on racing contingency fund.

April 2005 - Wreck (Buttonwillow) = elimination of contingency fund to make repairs.
June 2005 - Wreck (Sears Point - it will always be Sears for me) = elimination of competitive driving until new funding can be found.

2005, 2006 - Matt obtained a new car and installed cage. (Thanks Matt)

March, April, May 2006 - Been doing consulting work. Might be soon employed full time. Sent some money to Matt (not enough but some)
2006 Goal - Perhaps run an event or two (probably enduro) to debug the car.

2007 Goal - Compete (employment permitting).

I would like to attend the June event.

Who is responsible for instructors, I would like to trade my instruction skill for track time?

Dude that video is awesome (with the music and all) -- you should host that up on google/video or something. Total bummer though. I guess the Honda never saw "Days of Thunder"

Sorry if my article offended you, it wasent my intention, it was supposed to be funny. I poked fun at everyone including myself in it. So I deeply apologize for offending you.

You will never get a chance to hit me, I don't take kindly to being hit on purpose although I don't think anyone ever has and I quit racing wheel to wheel.

I was just a couple feet behind Phil going into that turn, and offset myself inside Phil's line in case someone was stopped inside the dust cloud. I couldn't see his bumper when we hit the dust cloud, and I wasn't more than a car length behind him when we did. I saw him flash by on my left side, then a lighter blue car. I saw them both pop out the other side as I cleared the dust and exited the turn and figured he found someone stopped in the dust. It's amazing how thick the dust can be at Buttonwillow.

It's sure good to see Phil back in the game, I really hope to see Phil (and Matt) back on track soon

Yeah, I thought from a distance that it could have been a Golf, but you got nice and close. Definitely a Honda.

Word. At least you didn't end up with "Team Brokeback" there Phil...

Mike, I think you're not quite getting his off-color British humor...

I'm not offended.

Mike,

My declaration that I would hit you was humor; the points thing was intended to be the key to understanding that. I was responding in (what was intended as) "kind" to your "brawler" statement. I'm not offended Mike, hope you're not either. All this goes to show why I don't write for a living!

I'm sorry your injury is such that you must no longer compete. What are your plans now? Who will be driving the dog car? Are you planing to become the Frank Williams of SE-R cup (sans wheel chair)?

On the subject of deliberate "hit" - I did deliberately hit Ryan at Willow Springs but it's not what you might think. The story revolves around a conversation which went somewhat as follows
Quote:
Phil: "Ryan I see I am on the grid behind you. I'll drive past you and look for you to come past on the inside of turn 2".

Ryan: "I would prefer it if you would not pass me at all"

Phil: "I would prefer it if your Honda would get up and go a bit faster at the start. Perhaps I should just push you down the front straight to turn one?"

Ryan: "That's a good idea - we'll do that."
Unfortunately the start was a disaster with the pole car not holding a consistent speed. The field bunched up and the green was dropped while Ryan was between 1st and 2nd gear. I accelerated assuming Ryan would be "on it" by the time I reached him. Crunch! I made hard contact but pushed him down the front straight.

Apparently I had hit Ryan so hard he was dazed and didn't regain his senses until we were almost into turn one. I have occasionally considered how badly this might have gone if Ryan had not retaken control of his car prior to turn one. (Shudder).

After the race we examined Ryan's Honda. The rear bumper was smashed in pretty badly. The Sentra had no discernible damage.

Yay, Phil is back! Three cheers for Phil!

I remember the first time I saw Phil in an SE-R Cup car. He was on grid, smoking a cigarette, and flicked it out just before going on course. Phil is another one of the unique characters that makes the SE-R Cup, well, the SE-R Cup!

I once saw the in-car video from Ryan's car at Willow. There's no doubt he had a much worse start than Phil. It looked like he was hit my a Mac truck... but it did speed him up quite a bit.

I am not offended. If the doctor says ok, I will be driving in TT in 6-9 months. In 6 more weeks my PT will probably start and I will be up and about. If things don't go well, I won't be able to drive, if a jolt can do firther damage bad damage. Their are many nerves that are now very close to touching bone and stuff in my back right now. Being hurt this bad really makes you appriciate litttle things like just going outside, not being in a hospital, using a toilet without help, taking a full shower, being around your family, seeing friends, etc. Everything seems wonderful.

In the meanwhile I'll be helping Tom and Tim with a certain Honda grudge match. Tom is going to drive my new car in the Superstreet and Modifed events for the time being. Tom might be driving the dog car in certain other events if needed.

I used to not think very much about getting bumped and putting 4 off but this happened to be in one of the only spots on the track where you could do damage with a semi controled 4 off. I feel really bad about Tims car and hopefuly it will be better than new with Toms help and some changes to the cage.

I am also trying to come up with some simple preventive measures to keep anyone else from getting hurt like this. This kind of thing could happen to any of us. I have been doing some research and compression fractures are a common racing injury. The pain was so bad thinking about it makes me shudder now and I don't want anyone else to have to experiance it.

Does that mean you'll be spitting out a lozenge right before you go out for the warm up lap?

Glad to hear things are going well Phil.

Actually I need to start wearing a full face helmet with a HANS setup. Given the nature of such a setup I don't think I'll be able to spit anything out!!

My current full face helmet has somehow shrunk! Actually, I got fatter shortly after purchase and I haven't used it since 2002. It's too tight in the cheeks, and presses on the cheek bones such that if I attempt to chew (or more importantly suck water) or move may face muscles in anyway I suffer pain.

My choices are buy a new helmet or find someone who can modify the padding in my current helmet. Anyone know someone who can modify the padding inside my helmet?

The manufacture of your helmet may be able to help.

Hello Phil.
As a matter of fact Paul did mention the Sentra complex when I talked to him after the race.
Glad to hear from you and glad to hear you are coming back.
Oh yeah. You didn't hit me, it was barely a bump.
