Race budget for SE-R Cup

I am trying to plan a team budget for when we finally get started racing, and have a few questions along these lines:

1) Have any of you guys compiled this type of information before, including oil, tires, belts, filters, and other wear and non-wear items?
2) How much will race fees run? Is it possible to work some NASA events to pay for these events like it is with HPDE's? (I don't think so, but wanted to ask)
3) How much should I expect to pay to get licensed?
4) Are any of you sponsored? If so, would you mind detailing the process of building relationships with sponsors? If you prefer, you can relay this information via email or PM...

Jim has answered some of these questions in our string of emails, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done this. I am very new to the whole process, and am trying to figure out how much I will spend per year on my obsession. This is especially important since I'm married! Thanks in advance for the help.

Go to the SERCUP website and look under downloads/resources for a good spreadsheet on expenses. Pretty scary;-)

The biggest wear item is tires. We usually get about 3 events on a set of tires and that's about how often we change the oil and filter. We have run the same set of Porterfield R4 pads (NX brakes) on the car since its race birth and there's still more than 1/2 pad left. I love those pads.

Naji has determined that 2000 SE clutch disks will last about 2 seasons (about 16-20 races), and that sounds right but I think our lower-powered car could push it to 3 seasons.

Ball joints wear out once per year or so- NASCAR replaces them after every race.

Not that I know of. You might eventually be able to instruct for the region, but not until you have a good bit of experience. I'd check with your Regional Director (RD).

VA Comp School is the HPDE fee, plus $50 for National Licensing Fee. Usually less than $300. Our here in SoCal you have to take the Driving Concepts school which is $450... and then another $50 to National, so you guys are getting a good deal.

The series has existing sponsorships for the west coast races and if the EC Cup grows to more than 5 cars per race, then I am pretty confident we could get them to include you. By that point, you should be able to attract at least series sponsors on your own.

Thanks for the pointer...I saved this on my computer and plan to play around with it quite a bit. It's nice to see that someone else has done some of these things; it'll make things a little easier at least from an informational perspective. Monetarily speaking, I do expect to be scared!

Well, at least out events don't cost as much. Why is this Jim? Not that I am complaining mind you, just curious.

At any rate, it looks like I should have a car by the beginning of next year to do HPDE's with. If the 240 isn't ready, I can always use my Type R, which is a capable car in its own right. Being that my daily is FWD and my racecar will be RWD, do you guys see any issues? Lines will be different depending on the track, and power will certainly be different. Come to think of it, there are little to no similarities between the car I drive daily and the racecar I plan on building.

Life seems to be getting more complicated by the moment. The phrase "ignorance is bliss" is becoming increasingly applicable!
