Greg,

I don't know if there are any cars in SE-R cup trim that have run on the East coast. I could be wrong though.

Thanks, Tom.

I'm actually looking for times nationwide, so post what you know. By comparing the SE-R Cup times from around the country relative to a standard (in this case, SCCA's ITS) it will allow me to do a comparison of the whole population.

lap times

Any updates to the following information is appreciated. Thanks!

Summit Point
ITS Lap record, 1:24.886, BMW 325is
Best claimed B13 lap time, 1:28.995, ITS Nissan NX2000 (104.8% - Unofficial practice)
Best official B13 lap time, 1:33.240, ITS Sentra SE-R, (109.8%)

don't know about that claimed ITS NX2000 time, but i know Eric Rosen w/ legal SER CUP car has done 1:30 repeadtedly in and EMRA enduro there,

as for VIR, full course best official time was 1:23, in same legal SER CUP car

VIR north, i would have to look at NASA-VA results for last 2 years

CMP, i know i have done 2:00.01 in a NASA race there in my legal SER CUP 1991 Ser, but again, Rosen has done better there in his car (his car has a few more horses)

i will post more official times when i get a chance

I think you mean 2:23 for VIR Full. I have results that show Eric ran a 1:47 for North Course.

In the database section of the se-r cup yahoo group there's a listing of lap records for both SR and SRX classes.

although unofficial or not, that 1.28+ at summit point is smoking, whoever did that needs to run SER cup!

A few years ago, there was a guy in a white B13 SE-R running ITS at Summit ... IIRC, his best time was 1:29-1:30 range. Should be on the WDCR-SCCA site under past MARRS results.

Edit: Found it:

1:30.399

Could've sworn he got a 1:29 somewhere ... [shrug]

aha, one track where I might have a record simply 'cause no SER's have run there, Lowes Motor Speedway, NASA VIR race w/ infield road course

1:29.196 ('cause I was in Eric Rosen's car, not mine ;-)

anyone know an ITS record there?

edit: couldn't fin record but saw an ITS lap time for winner of 1.24...that's quick (although it is a horsepower track, the SER absolutley fell on its face when you had to go 5th about halfway down the backstraight)

CMP record--Rosen did a 1:57.590 there in August of 2002 w/ NASA -VA

see a pattern here? ;-)

Ouch! Now you're gonna get it...I can't wait for 2004...

I must temper those times with the fact that I was running S03 Hoosiers (and 135 whp and 2525 pounds with 200# driver...)

Can't find the ITS lap record, but SCCA ran there in June, best lap time was 1:26.462 by an RX-7.

doesn' make me feel that much better, my car has 132 whp, no hoosiers :-) (toyos or kuhmos) and probably weighs 2600 w/ driver (i'm abouyt 180) and its nowhere near that quick! (although i have only done one session at summit which ended w/ a broken axle
) but i know its 2 to 3 seconds off your pace ;-)

As a point of reference, since I'm the one collecting lap records for the WC SE-R Cup, usually we're well off the ITS pace, mostly because we're rookie drivers and we don't allow Hoosier tires in the Cup (which more experienced drivers tell me are worth 1 second or so per lap at some tracks).

Willow Springs (2.5 miles)
ITS (Rich Molony): 1:34.495
SE-R Cup (Sheening Lin): 1:36.979 (101.3%)

Buttonwillow #13 CW (3.0 miles)
ITS (Brian Winch): 2:05.601
SE-R Cup (Phil Usher): 2:07.265 (102.6%)

California Speedway (2.8 miles)
ITS: (Preston Lerner): 1:57.678
SE-R Cup: (Phil Usher): 2:02.297 (103.9%)

Infineon Raceway (2.55 miles, I think)
ITS (Tom Wickersham): 1:53.047
SE-R Cup (Sheening Lin): 1:58.694 (105.0%)

Buttonwillow and Willow Springs are the tracks we visit the most, and as you can see, we're closest to the ITS record there.

I wonder if the Cup cars have an advantage on fast tracks or slower tracks? With the few data points we have, it looks like they are about 2% faster.

If we use ITS again, here's the MPH at the different tracks (unless I got my math wrong somewhere):

Willow Springs: 95 mph
Buttonwillow: 85 mph
California Speedway: 85 mph
Infineon Raceway: 81 mph

So, just by comparing our times to ITS, it looks like we do better at faster tracks, but that might just be due to driver skill.

Interestingly, all of the Cup lap records are B13s, despite the fast B14's driven by Naji Dahi and Mike Kojima- both of who have multiple poles and wins.

I am assuming the west coast SERC lap record you refer to are for SERC not SERXC (ie .not for the turbo cars);

just for a point of reference, the honda challenge h1 cars are about equal to the well prepped ITS (ie. e35 325s) cars out here...no one out here has raced a turbo SER but I assume they are similar to H1 cars?
