Cheapie '92 NX2000, now what?

After months of looking, and giving up and buying a new '04 Spec V instead, I just stumbled across a '92 NX2000 for a price that steadily declined between the window card, the window soap, and the voice on the phone.

If I pick it up, I'm looking to do some casual autocross and time trial, and eventually perhaps run it in the SE-R cup. I'd like to share what I know about the car's condition (very little, haven't driven it yet) to see what you all think I should pay, and what you think is the minimum upgrading (beyond basic safety and reliability things) necessary to start running SE-R cup in a reasonably competitive fashion (i.e., mid-pack if I turn out to be talented -- heh).

The car has a broken front spoiler (right down the center), both fog lights are broken, and there's a gap that looks a bit bigger than it should between the right front edge of the hood and the panel. The nose itself, however, appears to be fine (we'll see once I get in there for a look.)

It's a stickshift with the T-Tops; no idea if it has anti-lock brakes, no idea of the mileage yet. I'm not familiar enough with the original alloys to know if these are OEM, but I'm assuming new wheels and tires (along with redoing the brakes) are going to be a given.

Thoughts?

A thorough tune-up to catch most of the used-car gremlins should be all you need.

I'd recommend 15" wheels, 205/50 Azenis and a rear swaybar, then go have fun in the STS class for autocross. That tune-up I mentioned should address consumables like brakes, struts, etc. and you may want to make minor upgrades to those as well.

There's a great cost calculator that Rob Cadle made up a few years ago. It is the best resource for cost. At the minimum, check out the "You want to suck" column.

That xls sheet is really, really terrific. Thanks for the advice, guys. When I come out the other side of the weekend, we'll see if I have a beater NX2000 to play with.
