My first dead engine

Well, not mine, but someone running one of my ecus. Not a VE or DET btw, it was a DE. This was a track car (IT), it survived three days of on track fun and died on day four. I'll post more as I hear they symptoms. I've attached the rom. FWIW I've run this same tune (or close to, this version idles at 1300 to keep the oil pressure up in the pits) on my stock daily driver with 93 octane for quite some time now, but I guess the timing needs to be brought down a notch for a full-time track car unless you run 100 octane. I'll post the details as I get them. Anywho, more to come later.

It's nice that you post so openly about this.

No no, he's cool. This is a very experienced driver in a very well developed car, he realizes this happens. This is not a novice, this is a very well built car with lots of history. He's actually working on tuning his own ecu and was just using the base rom I shipped his ecu with.

I put this up here because I really want ecu tuning to be a community effort. Part of that means learning from mistakes as well as successes. You've gotta break eggs to make an omelette. I figured it was a matter of time before someone blew their engine, I just thought it would be a VE or more likley a DET that would let loose first. The DEs are a hard nut to crack.

I think I'm better off by making as many details about ecu tuning public, thats why I started posting all this stuff in the first place and developing daughter boards. I think hoarding information and tuning in a vacuum is kind of a waste of time, especially on a 15 year-old car with no real market. Not that I don't have a bad habit of hoarding hard-earned secrets, but thats something I try not to do too much.

Yeah, I know I appreciate all the info you coughed up.

Now that I have my S14 T28 sitting on the floor...soon Ill be able to use some of your ideas.

I agree, DE's are strong stockers.
