The Consult is the device that allows you to "read" all of the gauges, etc from the Consult port. It is similar to the MDX, etc that give you diff't readings. The Calumsult requires a laptop (or really long cord) to read the diff't readings. It will give TPS, coolant temp, etc. It will also allow your to do datalogging for some runs if you run Calum's software.
If you want to tune your ecu. You need a Moates burner, and a chipped ecu along w/ some shareware programs - like Rom editor, etc. I "believe" the JWT ecu should be the same thing. You would just need to get the maps from it, and then you can start tweaking it. You are probably better off just tweaking timing unless you have a wideband. All of it is best to do on a dyno, but you could tweak the timing and do it on the street if you have a benchmark.
I just regurgatized (sp?) info Calum told me this weekend. It seems pretty cool, and you should be able to search the net for some really good sites - like the Z or S13/14 guys. It won't be exactly the same, but it should give you a better idea.
The JWT ECU uses a different ROM chip than the Calum ECU. Calum said that it would be "possible but not straight forward" for him to burn a new JWT ROM chip, so, for me that means it's not something I'm going to try right off the bat. I'm not sure, but I'm suspecting that the Moates burner does not accept, or does not easily accept, the JWT ROM chip.
You could, however, download the JWT ROM .bin file using Calumsult or Nissan Datascan and burn the Calum ROM chips for the Calum daughter board, thus transplanting the JWT program into a system that you can modify.
What BillC said is correct. JWT uses different types of rom chips than I do, or what a moates burn1 will work with. Also, some of the newer JWT boards are setup for 'scrambled' roms to disuade the copiers, but thats not really much of a problem if you know what your doing and already know how the ecu works. the easiest method is to just dump the rom via the consult port and move it to a different ecu with a db that is more friendly to burning (like mine). All JWT roms currently dump via the consult port just like any other rom no problem, I don't know why they didn't just disable this feature as its not that hard.
I'm assuming this is all for a B13 btw.
I need to write a how to on tuning a rom minimal expensive toys, its not that hard, just takes a little learning and some dyno time. NA SRs are great to start with, they're damn hard to blow-up even with really radical changes.
Can you think of any reason why a JWT ECU would not dump via the consult port?
If I use datascan, it quickly stops using "fast" mode, using "slow" mode I can get into triple digits on the download before it stops. It is always just random.
Calumsult will not work at all for me. I get a crazy error everytime I attempt to connect, I can't get any of the program to work - guages, nothing at all.

Check out this thread. I have similar issues but can get it to dump eventually through the Consult port with NissanDataScan. It takes a few tries and works better when the car is warmed up for some reason.
Thats probably a problem with your consult box. Try a different laptop and usb adapter to rule those out, but I bet the problem is with the consult box. What your describing is typical problems with the consult box.

Yeah on another site selling consult adapters I read that only a certain usb -> serial adapter will work. It has to do with the chipset. People described random and connection errors. I dunno, no personal experience.

Go for it. I want to get your ecu and have no idea how to start tuning it.

Bringing this back...
When you say "problem with your consult box" are you basically referring to a poor soldering job?
