Daughterboard with consult

I like the way these turned out. Pricing is yet to be determined, and I need to ramp up on some stock first.

Btw, I will be on vacation and away from the internet starting this Saturday through next Sunday. If anyone is mailing me an ecu that's ok, they're getting held for me.

Thats funny because I just got my boards in yesterday that are essentially the same thing. Headers on the board that go directly to the ecu for the consult and a serialport on the side of the case.

I like it... if you have any intention on selling these assembled, what would pricing be like?

Now you come out with it. Is this something that if we just got the ECU back from you we can add ourselves or something?

Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ.

I'm estimating $150-175 for these, after the forum kickback and including shipping. That works out to about $100 in labor (double the basic board, but it takes about twice as long) + parts (TBD) + shipping ($15) + kickback (TBD).

If you guys like these you'll love whats coming next.

For anyone with the old boards do we still need to get the consult box or is there an easy way to switch to the new boards?

I can swap the boards, we can work something out. Installing the new board takes some decent soldering skills.

Well, here's my ecu stuff agenda, in about this order:

-minor change: minor redo for the consult box board, again
-minor change: layout changes in basic daughterboard for simple diy rom switching
-minor change: layout changes in consult db
-new product: basic daughterboard with basic buffered rom switching (see below)
-new product: advanced switching rom daughterboard
-new product: rom emulator daughterboard
-new product: USB consult box board

The first three are done, but won't be implemented until current stock runs out. None of those are major changes. The simple rom switcher is for you guys that want to add a switch for a valet mode, etc. No price changes.

The buffered switcher allows changing rom programs on the fly, with no hiccups. This is for you guys that want a simple launch control, or nitrous retard, etc. Minor cost over the basic board.

The advanced switcher puts a microcontroller on the daughterboard which switches automaticlly under certain circumstances. It also can control two solenoids (and not necesarily switch the rom). Think VVL, nitrous, water injection, etc. Its got extra analog inputs so you can wire a map sensor and have it switch maps when it sees a higher boost or something (thats really cheesy). It should be able to do a progressive nitrous control with it too, but I'll need a guinea pig. Switch points will be programed in via another serial connector. I'll probably open source the code running the micro (18F series pic) so you hackers can modify it to do whatever you want. This guy is really not far away from seeing the light of day. May also have onboard consult port, I've got room on the board if I go to a full size board (ala JWT). This should be a fun little board. Price TBD ($200-250?). Parts are procured, layout needs to be revised to add consult, PC software is a pipe dream, and the PIC code needs the hardware.

The rom emulator board is my baby. I've been working on this on and off for a while, but went back to the drawing board recently. This guy is turning out really slick, but still has a stack of developement and parts are $$$. This is what I've squeezed on there so far:
-Real time rom read and writes (no turning the car off)
-Rom tracing
-Additional analog inputs: EGT, generic TC, Map sensor, wideband input (via Innovate LM-1 analog output or equivalent)
-Consult on board
-USB connection using dual serial IC (this is one USB connection, but your PC sees it as two new serial ports, one is the consult and the other is the rom emulator)
-Auto battery backup for the rom (its really a ram, lol). Also powers on via either USB port or car power, so can be programmed outside of the car.
I've got everything done on paper and am in the process of procuring parts. I will farm out assembly of this for all but initial betas (80 pin micro, 86 pin memory IC, handfull of 16+ pin parts, all surface mount, ick!). PC software is a pipe dream but I will publish the comm protocol in the faint hopes that someone else might want to write software, pic code is also waiting on hardware. Price TBD, but I'm aiming at $350ish.

Oh yeah, and maybe one day I might do a B14 board. *duck*

If you're seroius about the software let me know, I'm fiddling around with my own consult software now just to see if I could do it.

If your timeline for the advanced switching rom daughterboard would be the middle of summer, I could be convinced to guinea pig it for you with regards to nitrous on the VE, Calum.

All I need is a push (or shove) and I'll make the nitrous thing happen. I love nitrous.
