ok, ill try the one for 4.61 shipped, it has a prolific pl2303 chipset, i found the connector for $61 shipped.

just noticed the proflic one from ebay is confirmed to work and it is about $8 shiipped. i can almost half that if this works.

probably have to try and get the cable working without the usb/serial on a laptop with a serial port to rule it out as the cause.

bit hard when you're working with 2 unknowns

bought another expensive serial adapter on ebay but it does not work.

there are a number of people on ebay now selling the consult cable for around 30 bucks. some of them will sell the usb adapter. most ebay consult cables look like the one I bought.

closer to $40 including shipping. and theyre the bulky chinese ones which u cant run permanently if u dont want it sticking into your knee when driving

can get serial ones with smd circuit in connector etc for ~$36USD posted ($55AUD) from http://www.ecutalk.com/interface.aspx

also the usb ones are around $10USD more (cheaper than a serial + ftdi converter). the usb ones use the ftdi chip so shouldnt be any problems there
